The two greatest game endings ever produced

7:22 PM on 01.31.2007, Jordan Grim Devore 94 comments

     Pain
Game endings are generally a time for players to reflect on both the good and bad times they endured throughout their gaming experience. Other times, endings can make you wonder how the hell you were tricked into buying the game in the first place. This is where Zelda: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon come in.

Many people consider these games to be a skid mark on the underpants of gaming society and these videos will attest to that. Pause the first clip at 1:24 and you will see what all the fuss is about.

Witness the horror that is Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon after the break.

These are the 2 worst endings I have seen in ages. What the hell was going on in Nintendo's head for allowing this garbage to come out?

For some reason, I hadn't realized Ganon went back that far. We really have been playing the same game for a while.

As good as these two are, my favorite game endings were for Fight Club and Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

In Fight Club...I don't even remember. You don't get anything, you barely get a credits sequence, you don't get the Pixies. But what you do get is Fred Durst as an unlockable character. The world weeps.

And then Who wants to be a millionaire was amazing just because when you beat the game ("win" one million dollars) you're treated to an FMV of Regis Philbin making fun of you, saying things like "Hey, if you're so good at the home game, why aren't you in the hot seat right now?" Or something to that extent. My mother actually beat this game, watched this video, and said, out loud "Fuck this game, and fuck you Regis." And then never played another game, or watched that show, ever again.

The real gem was how the last boss can be killed with one hit. And the animations looked so rushed and so plain, I think even my 4-year-old nephew can draw those...

Wanna know what the budget was for these games? $600,000 each.

Are you sure it wasn't 50 bucks and a pirated copy of paint shop pro and flash mx?

Is that the real budget grim?
If so... damn, they didn't use it wisely.

"Wand of Gamelon and Link: The Faces of Evil were given the relatively low budgets of $600,000 each and it was decided by the Cambridge-based development team, led by Dale DeSharon, to develop the two games in tandem in order to more efficiently use the budget." -Wiki

It's just tragic.

Someone looked at that and said "yes, I do believe that is good enough to go to market."

my eyes! it burns! I love how they reused animation for the second ending from the previous game. Also, they didn't even move the backgrounds in the camera moves...I'm in the animation industry and this is some of the worst animation I've seen in a while. *barfs*

CDI: Crap Dump Inferno (best I could think of), the system that destroys entire 3rd world countries, and will kill your family if it ever comes within 10 ft. of you. Also, it runs Zelda.

My God those were horrible. And what's with the one shot kills the boss thing in both of those games? I've never had a boss that easy, and I've been playing video games for 20 years.

Thank God I never bothered w/ the CD-i. What a steaming pile of shit.
