If you're like me, then at one point in your life you got suckered into a free subscription of Game Informer by way of GameStop or EB -- whichever does that stupid thing. Anyway, usually I just use the mediocre mag to help with fires, but in the most recent issue I happened to accidentally come across something that I thought some of you may be interested in -- especially since some of us tend to get into online debates about which gaming property is better than such and such.
Take a look at this list of the top gaming properties and see if anything surprises you. The numbers listed represent units sold worldwide.

I know a million people who would buy it
He said that Final Fantasy VII was the best selling game ever and that it somtimes currently gets on the top best selling games list. I snickered and shook my head!
Halo only sold around 9 million at most I believe, not a tiny number but not a lot when looking at all video games.
*cough reach couch*
Fuck halo.
What? I said it.
Awwww yeah...
This list doesn't include bundled games. If you hit the link in my first post it'll take you to Wikipedia where it says Super Mario world sold 17 million copies and Super Mario Bros sold over 40 million
Lists be damned.
*87 is a low ball estimate of how many Mario games there are...
"Super Mario Bros. - the official Guinness Book of World Records record holder for best-selling game, at over 40 million copies sold".
Your list is wrong Summa, and as a result it erases all of your credibility as a journalist...
Yeah I know, but neither Halo 1 nor Halo 2 had an installed user base big enough to crack 11million...that would mean that every other Xbox owner bought the game...
Halo 3 will not hit that list either as there will only be around 15-20million 360's out there...but like velcroman said Halo is the most valuable property out there.
Top Ten Franchsies
Reading is fun. I didn't come up with the list, this is what Game Informer is saying. Simma down now.
