Nintendo just released their top 10 choices for the Nintendo Short Cuts contest. The first thing you'll notice is that the Punch-Out video, the one I thought would have a great chance at winning, didn't make the cut. Considering that some of the entries are well, garbage, it's really infuriating to see Punch-Out not even get a mention.

So what did make the cut? Well let me break it down to you:

The Blue Light Zone: Eye of the Mii-Holder: This is the spoof of the classic Twilight Zone episode where the guy had face surgery to become a normal person. Normal though, for the Twilight Zone, was that he had a normal human face, but everyone else HAD A FREAKISHLY DEFORMED FACE! OH THE HORROR!

Koopa ForceThe second I heard Bowser singing his theme song I knew I had seen this before. In fact, this video is almost a year old. It was even submitted in an older Nintendo contest! But hey, who am I to b*tch? After all, the creator of the video did spend 4 years making the video.

The Legend of Zelda: The Missing LinkLink somehow finds himself in modern times trying to survive. At least, that's what I think is happening. It's nearly impossible to read the subtitles. Also, random Super Smash Bros fight.

The Killing of a No Good Goomba: It's like an episode of Law & Order but in the Mushroom Kingdom.

PRETENDO: Mario and Link have to save the princess. Mario's princess to be specific. Also hot chicks.

Good vs. Wiivil: A man's life is in the control of two Wiimote operators. One good, the other WIIVIL!!!!

The Nintendo Office: Everyone imagines working for Nintendo would be awesome. In reality, it's not.  The scene where the employee gets called into Bowser's office is great.

The Last Wii: Two friends must race to the store and buy the last Wii. Before their neighbor tries and buys it before them.

Nintendo News Network: All the big news from around the Nintendo universe. The bit at the end with the winning lottery numbers is hilarious.

All My Systems: A man falls in love with the Wii and neglects his other loves. I rather watch Passions.

So who do you think will win? I'm thorn between Pretendo and Nintendo News Network as the winner. Also, isn't it nice how Nintendo is giving you the option of voting even though it has no effect on the out come of who wins? By nice, I mean stupid.

[Thanks to Jon for the tip and breaking my heart.]

I agree. The Punch-Out entry should have made the finals. :(

What Nintendo did was an incredible insult to their audience, the fans, the filmmakers and themselves. If this is how they judge, why would anyone in their right mind want to submit to their next contest?

I knew this would happen. Nintendo doesn't care about these videos being good. They just want something dumb and fluffy and stupid, that preferably tells the world how awesome Nintendo is.

Exactimundo! And it doesn't really matter either because its not like someone is gonna be undecided about whether they like Nintendo or not and then see one of these vids, stop, and think to themselves, "Hey ya know what....I think I like Green Eggs and Ham Sam I Am I really Like Them....."

Y'know... if people would stop bitching about the Punch-Out!! video not making the cut (it was entertaining and very well done, but honestly, the last half was weak), they could see that some of these videos are actually worthy of top ten-dom. Good vs. Wiivil, in particular, is really freaking clever. Of the other ones I've seen, Nintendo World News was great and I'd probably put Pretendo a distant third (it had some pretty awful acting). I need to watch the Office one, though.

Okay, I dunno, I think The Nintendo Office skips past Nintendo World News and punts out Pretendo.

@ DM_L

The Punch-Out!! trailer is a good one to focus on simply because it's the most evident one that should've at least placed but didn't. I agree with you in what you said about it, but compared to about half of these finalists, it blows them out of the water.

There are a lot of films out there that should have been picked but most certainly were not. I'm glad Good Vs. Wiivil did make the cut, as that's one I've been following. But these finalists make me very afraid to see what the winner will be. There ARE a lot of creative filmmakers out there. But a lot of the mediocre ones were the ones that ended up making the cut instead. That's what makes this whole debacle so depressing and embarrassing.

There was one I saw...

Oh, "Behind the 8-Bit Mask." It was a "Behind the Music" kind of thing on Link and Mario. Really freaking clever and pretty hilarious at times. I'm sad it's not on this list. Mario punched Link in the face.

**Maybe** it's because I'm a Media Studies major, but did anyone else notice the surprising amount of "white people" in the winning entries?

Were there any minorities in any of them?
