Gearbox could have taken the easy way out. It could have released some DLC packs for Borderlands where you get a new story that lasts a couple of hours at best, and some new items. Instead, Gearbox pushed itself to come up with expansions that fans would love and really enjoy. Not only are they doing these expansions for the fans, but they're also doing it for themselves.
Steve Gibson, V.P. of Marketing at Gearbox Software, tells us that "every DLC is an improvement of [the Gearbox] team. As well as extending the story and the content for everyone else, we look at each [DLC] as not only an opportunity for you guys to get new stuff but also for [Gearbox] to improve our team so we can get better at it too."
So how has Gearbox improved? With "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned," Gearbox improved the story telling a bit. With "Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot", they improved the scripting stuff. Now with "The Secret Armory of General Knoxx," Gearbox has pushed the boundaries on everything. Steve goes on to say that it's "taken what we already had and managed to squeeze things into what was already an existing infrastructure. We keep improving all the things we can within that baseline we've built."
One of the big technical improvements in "General Knoxx" Gearbox achieved is that players who have the new content from the upcoming DLC can play together with people that don't have the new stuff yet. Players that don't have the new DLC will be able to see all the gear their jerk friend is taunting them with as they work together.
Check back a little later today as I'll be bringing you a full preview of all the hot new stuff in "The Secret Armory of General Knoxx."
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It looks like it will offer all the things I was hoping for out of the first 2 DLCs!
Which is exactly what they did, minus the new items part.
steam kinda kills the whole second hand market, but you can get the boxed version and register it on steam, at least that way u can return it if you dont like it.
just to be clear, i had literally no problems with borderlands for PC. if you didn't buy it, then why are you complaining about it?
hate to double post, but what's more bullshit: downloading a copy of the game to evaluate the product before purchase, or being hyped and swayed by misleading advertising into paying for a game that you don't actually like?
Fable I wasn't that great. Buy Fable II! Fable II wasn't that great. Buy Fable III!
Zombie Ned wasn't that great. Buy Mad Moxxi! Mad Moxxi wasn't that great, buy General Knoxx!
@ Epidemico616:You are a complete moron. For starters, show me one game store where you can return a game because 'you didn't like it'. Second, show me one game store where you can even return and opened pc game. Every major retailer that sells computer game software has a strict no return policy on opened items. This was another gem on your part "the justification of "if its good, ill buy it" is bullshit. you buy it and if its bad you return it, or if thats not possible sell it second hand. " Once again epic fail. We as consumers vote with our dollars, IF A PRODUCT IS GOOD I PURCHASE IT, IF ITS BROKEN, BAD, DEFFECTIVE I DON'T. I buy new games for retail price all the time, but I'm not some moron uneducated shopper who just buys everything and then returns what I don't like. The cracked version of the game runs the exact same as the retail release, the only difference being securom isn't running the background when I play. All the bugs, netcode problems, and shitty console interface are persistent across the pirated and retail versions. 2k games is notorious for slogging their pc releases with securom, and I for one will not spend any of my own money (or ask for any of their games as gifts), until they stop treating paying customers like criminals.
Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but it need a little bit of fixing.
I'll be buying this asap.
