When I was little, the only system I had was my dad's Colecovision he had in college. And I only played that every once in awhile, most of the time it was in a box in the basement collecting dust. Whenever it was out, I had a blast with Pacman and Asteroids and whatnot, but when it was put away I forgot about it in an instant.

In fact, if it wasn't for a specific event I probably would have never got into videogames. So what event was it that got me into this hobby? Well, my relatives on my Dad's side were notorious for unloading shit on us. Books, clothes, tapes and whatnot. When the PlayStation came out, my cousins unloaded their Sega Genesis on us. My brother and I were of course excited as hell by this. We had always watched them play games when we came to visit, and the chance to actually play these games whenever we wanted amazed us. Unfortunately, we never bought games ourselves so we were stuck with the ones they gave us. Which wouldn't have been bad if their library of games didn't consist of mostly terrible games. So while everybody was playing Mario and Final Fantasy I was stuck playing Cliffhanger and Chakan. And I actually enjoyed them, which comes to show you how much of a moron I was when I was a kid.

But this wasn't what made me love games. It was more along the lines of a gateway drug. It intrigued me enough to make me buy my next system, the PlayStation. And it was on the PlayStation where I came across what made me love games.

Nice write. I just read another one with RE in it. what a series. I actually never played Skullmonkeys.
----Begin Tangent----
One of my dreams cone true:
Resident Evil 0 and 1 get ported to 360/PS3 on a single disc, instead of being gamecube exclusives.
Resident Evil 2 and 3 get remade in a similar way to RE1 but with RE5's engine --- reworking the level and enemy design while keeping all of the story and atmosphere.
This way, I'd have the entire series on a more current system with a more user-friendly controller... with my 2 favorite RE games improved.
----End Tangent----
@ Blehman;
That was a good scene with the Licker. I think I was urging my friend to either shoot the bugger or run into the door behind him.
All I remember from RE2 is playing it at a mate's house as a kid. The booze never let me get past the first level :(
