The special edition Heavy Rain Americans won't be getting photo

Here's a look at the special edition of Heavy Rain that North American customers won't be able to enjoy, since it's a Europe-only deal. Quantic Dream's big PS3 exclusive is going to be packing a lot of goodies when it hits the PAL territories.

As well as the classy gatefold sleeve, customers will get access to the Heavy Rain Chronicles DLC we talked about a few weeks ago, as well as their very own origami creature and some sort of cryptic poster crammed with information. Very nice stuff. Most of you reading this won't be able to get your stupid hands on it.

So yeah, enjoy looking at it, in any case.

This is the HMV-only deal, right? If so, it's what I'm going to be pre-ordering next week. It's the exact same price as the normal edition as well at £39.99.

As an American that cares more about playing the game than a bunch of pathetic extra crap that would just collect dust, I don't care at all.

I know it's off topic, but I can't make a cblog off my phone, anyway, I went into game (in the uk) today, and saw the replica bayonetta gun that Australia got in their special edition behind the counter, and asked the guy about it, and he gave me one, for free, without me buying bayonetta (no point buying it again). Shame about the tiny handle/trigger, but it looks fucking awesome next to my arkham asylum baterrang and my vault boy bobble head :)
sorry for off topic, but yeah, update the toilet edition so I can blog from it!
Or make a dtoid app, that would win the world ;)

Packaging looks better than the game itself.

I hear the origami is made of vintage worn paper.

That's nice making a special edition and all, but honestly, do we really need these anymore? We had far too many come out these past two years, and few were even worth the money. I guess it's only in the eye of the beholder.

In regards to the game itself, I honestly don't think this game is going to be that great. I've watched the videos of it. It's a very well detailed game, and the technology behind it is good as well. But when it all boils down to it, the game just looks like an new Dragon's Lair.

And for everyone that talks about immersion in games, and praises this game, don't you think those icons that either come across the screen or the buttons you have to press BREAK the immersion?

I'm not trying to hate on this game, but it doesn't look that appealing.

S'allright, the only special edition I've ever bought was Blazblue, and only because it was the same price as the standard. I don't plan on caving in and paying extra for useless junk any time soon.

@ Senger: The game journalists will tout it as the most interactive and greatest game of all time, then proclaim whatever big game comes out fall/winter season of 2010 as game of the year...

What is with the hate with collector editions and the game it's self. If you don't care about collectible extra's then fine, you have nothing to worry about. As for those who are hatting the game, if it does not seem like your thing then don't buy it. However, that does not give you the right to act stupid and troll your hate. This game is an interactive adventure game where what you do can affect the events in the game. That is why people are interested in it.

Within 24 hours all the posters and information would have been scanned in and uploaded on the internet, along with plans on how to make such origami creatures. DLC can be downloaded anyway at a later date.

Like with all special editions, this one is crammed with useless stuff. The game itself will probably be great but this special edition sure isn't. You're wasting your money by buying this. What extras are provided are not difficult to obtain elsewhere and by other means.

I admit that some special editions might have a point if they include a LOT of DLC with the package (like the Dragon Age Special Edition on the PC), but most editions aren't worth anything at all - Take for instance, the Mass Effect 2 special edition. You get a soundtrack, a special set of armor and a short comic about Liara of all characters. The armor is not all that great, the soundtrack might not be worth it, and a comic about Liara? LIARA? Make the comic about Wrex and THEN we've got a deal.

No night vision goggles?

What a crappy special edition.

Seriously though, I'm not too bummed about missing out on this. The few extras are alright, but nothing amazing.

Farenheit was good up until about half way when shit got crazy, Id love to play this but dont have a PS3 until my brother goes on holiday and leaves me his for a month again.

Although I agree with RenegadePanda, no goggles, no sale.

The packaging in general reminds me of Silent Hill 2 on PS2, which is a good thing.

I would have expected more swag but I guess that package's sweet enough. Atlus ought to step in though and give them an idea what a "special edition" is, methinks.

...Honestly, why are you people complaining? http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;0;-1;-1;-1&sku=308607

It's listed as the same price as the bloody normal version. Your "wasting money" claims are retarded BECAUSE IT'S THE SAME PRICE.

Also, what Poraro said. It's the same price as the standard edition - only it's an HMV exclusive.

It's just a ploy to get people to go to HMV to get the game instead, and a good one at that. All those extras for the grand price of nothing? Yeah, I'll be grabbing this from HMV.

The US version comes with a strategy guide! Here is a sample from the first part of the game.

"Press X, B, move stick left, X, X, Y, move stick left, A, X. This is how you escape the burning building!"

This is so wrong. I'm one of those day one buyers of Indigo Prophesy and now this...I'm a big fan of Quantics ideas and where they are taking Heavy Rain. Yet I get gyped of the option for this collectors edition that I would have bought just because I live in America.
Good job, Sony. Nice treatment of one of your buying customers.

I think Sony has no faith in us Americans. :/

£44.49 shipped to the US from HMV so about $73. + the agony of waiting a week or whatever for it to come in the mail.

@ hellodrjoe,

That's nothing. £44.99 to import it to the US?

That's only £5 more than it will cost me to go and pick it up, you don't realise how lucky you are with videogame prices. The only part I'm with you on is the waiting period, which I'll admit sucks, and the fact that you aren't getting the special edition, which also sucks.

But the cost? Nah, no sympathy.
