The week started off with a new challenger!
Lucas has joined the
Brawl and he has made his way from
MOTHER 3. Masahiro makes a small mention towards Ness as well in this update. He will more than likely make it back. I
made mention of Tuesdays update on the site already. Basically, we see
video of Snake in action as well as some funny little dialog exchanges with Snake about some of his opponents. We were shown Snake's
battle stage as well.
Wednesday brought new Assist Trophies of the 8-bit flavor. That's right, you're going to be able to summon characters like Excitebike and Lakitu. Excitebike will race around on the stage with other Excitebikers and Lakitu will throw his Spinies at people.
Thursday was a double update starting off with Fox's Final Smash. When he gets the Smash power up, the Landmaster lands in the stage. You can hover, roll and shoot the cannon at your opponents. Then the shielding and dodging techniques were shown off. Nothing about the shields have changed. Your shield will shrink after a period of time still and it can still get shattered which will make you lose consciousness. Same goes for dodging. You can do sidesteps, backward rolls and forwards rolls.
The week ends at the DOJO with a bang. The campaign mode in Brawl will have two player co-op. Two people can play together but from the way the update is worded, it looks like you can only do co-op on the same Wii. It basically plays out like Sonic 2. The camera will stay fixed on the main player while the second player has to keep up. If you get behind, you will automatically do a space jump to get back to the side of your partner. The main character will form teams based on the development in the story and whoever they meet will join their team. Each time you lose a life, you switch to a different character on your team.
Seems like every other week now at the DOJO is going to be filled with awesome. What did you think of all this week's news?
Tuesday's videos were pretty funny. And we got another stage, even thought we've already seen it.
Wednesday was good too. I like assist trophies, and Excitebike is cool. I don't know why they bothered showing us Lakitu if they weren't going to give him his own profile. I guess that's so they can waste another update on him later.
Thursday's update wasn't so great. We already know how shielding and dodging work. Fox's final smash is pretty cool, but I can wait for the game to come out to see everybody's moves. I'm more interested in seeing what characters are going to be playable.
Friday's update was the only really crappy one. I don't really give a crap about the adventure player mode. It's a neat addition, but who buys Smash Bros. for the single player mode?
People who enjoy unlocking characters.
Lucas was already predictable, we all know how to shield and stuff, Snake's purpose in the game is just UTTERLY useless, 8-bit graphics are shitty 80's retro junk, and I don't have any friends to play co-op with anyway.
...
This week was awesome! =D
QFT. If you gotta do it anyway, might as well make it fun, right?
Personally I think this was one of the best Smash update weeks. We got a new character (and another sliver of hope for a Mother 3 localization), Snake in action and trying to get into Samus's pants, Landmaster, Excitebike, and freakin' co-op. It doesn't get much better than this.

It's a Japanese game and Japan already has Mother 3. But if Roy and Marth are any indication for helping to make a case for Fire Emblem, maybe Nintendo will stop crapping all over Earthbound fans for once when we show how much we love our franchise.
Probably not though, fuck you Nintendo.
Fuck Yeah!
Great week! Sakurai-san hinted at something really interesting in todays update with this quote:
"There’s a method for powering yourself up as needed to do battle with the Subspace Army—a method that has not been seen before.
I’ll explain this in great detail another time."
I hope this "method of powering yourself up" is not limited to the single-player modes.
What a tease as always, Sakurai-san, but thanks for another week of updates.

@SPECTRAL
HMM no friends? I wonder why.
They wouldn't tease about a character whos been all the previous games and then have him not come back.
You beat me to it dude! I was about to post the same comment. Since Sakurai created Kirby, it should be noted that the co-op mode is inspired by the co-op helper that you could use in Kirby Superstar.
And Awesome week by the way, the landmaster was specially badass, and since I don't have the Japanese skillz to play Mother 3 yet, I'm curious about what kind of moves Lucas will have, although I'm sure they will be P.K. related.
No! Nothing to object to, it was a great week.
It's just that's all I'm reminded of when I see that picture of Lucas!
I asked myself the same thing when melee came out the only logical answer was mach rider as a playable character
Sarcasm.
