The Smash DOJO!! recap: "Only I have the brains to rule Lylat!"

6:45 PM on 08.31.2007

On Monday, a new item called Curry was revealed to make your characters go on fire. Please tell me after looking at the pictures you also thought of the famous NBA Jam line "HE'S ON FIRE!!!" -- I know I did. Your character will continually shoot out fire while you use any attack. Also please tell me I'm not the only extremely childish person here that thinks Diddy Kong is farting flames in this picture. No? Just me then, eh? F*ck.

It was a double update on Tuesday. We were shown how you will be fighting using the Wiimote. I didn't really read too much into this because I know I'm sticking with the 'Cube controller. The second update of the day has to be my favorite assist trophy announcement yet. It's freaking Andross (SNES Version)! He appears in background and spits out a horde of panels at the combatants.

The last couple of days on the DOJO!! showed us the Pokemon Trainer and the flyable characters specials. We were shown Charizards, Ivysaur and Squirtle's B move set on Wednesday. I'm still really curious as to how balanced this team will be for Brawl. Thursday finally revealed how the flying characters will be able to fly. From what it sounds like, it's not going to completely unfair as people have been worried about. A character like Meta Knight won't be able to just hover in the sky waiting for the time to run out or anything cheap like that.

Finally, today's announcement saved the week. I love the idea of Andross being in the game, but it wasn't enough for me to make this a great week for the Smash teasers. That is until today's announcement of a new stage based on the WarioWare games. I can't even begin to think how this stage will work. Is it going to really be five second increments of each sub-stage? Or will there be more depth to it all?

What did you think of this week's updates at the DOJO?

Review: Pokémon Rumble World

Nintendo has been dipping its toes in the water of DLC and free-to-play with mixed results. Although it has done a great job creating worthwhile add-ons that don't feel like rushed day-one cash grabs, the whole amiibo situati...more
