Quantcast

Lets get right into the recap, shall we? Monday brought the news of a new stage. Think back to Melee and the Ice Climbers stage. Now take out the snow, add the jungle and that's what you get with this new level based on Donkey Kong. Tuesday brought the return of Yoshi and the news that he will have a third jump finally. It's funny to note that at the end of the Tuesday update, Masahiro had this to say about Yoshi:

That’s enough to earn him a hearty welcome, isn’t it?

On Wednesday, another new stage was revealed. It's called Sky World and is Pit's level. The main floor on this level breaks easily so should be a great level for the flying characters. The best piece of news was revealed on Thursday with the new technique called Footstool Jump. As your character jumps on top of another character, you can use your enemy as spring launcher and jump off of him. From the screens, it looks like your enemies will get paralyzed for a little while as well. It seems you'll also be able to use this technique as an attack called Meteor Smash. Finally, on Friday, a new Assist Trophy was revealed from the Kirby universe. His name is Knuckle Joe, and was the character Kirby could eat to give him fighting skills (which often resembled Ryu's from Street Fighter fighting style).

Pretty much a dull week at the DOJO!! The most interesting news was the Footstool Jump. From the sound of it, it's going to be real easy to be a cheap bastard. Imagine if your trying to jump back to the battlefield after getting knocked off stage only to have someone jump on top of you right before you make it back and get paralyzed mid-air.

I'm pretty sure jumping on someone in mid-air will make them shoot down, rather than stunning them.

Knuckle Joe stole the shoryuken from Ryu.

The character might still get stunned as he's being shot down from the jump.

A meteor smash in Super Smash Bros Melee was when you hit someone with a Down + A attack to spike them downwards into the pit.

Looks like it will be much easier to edge guard with this new Footstool jump

Brainderailment- They also updated the graphics for Brawl. I'm pretty sure Brawl could not been done on the GC. I'ts a huge step up from Melee.

And for this week in the Dojo, it was my least favoriate, even worse than last week. But there was still some highlights. I think the footstool jump is a brilliant idea, and I'm sure it will become like second nature to use it.

As for it being potential a cheap move, just about every character has a up and B move that works as a jump and an attack (Mario's uppercut, Samus's Screw Attack, etc). So if some one tried to footstool jump you as you recover, you could just use that attack and they would fall into the pit as you rise to safe ground.

I plan on trying to fake people out with this move. It's going to add a lot to the over all game's strategy.

For those of you who STILL don't know the difference between a Spike and a Meteor Smash in SSB, peep this wall of text from the SmashWiki:

"A spike is an an attack that sends the opponent downward until the hitlag wears off. A spike is not to be confused with a Meteor Smash, which also sends the opponent downwards, but can be Meteor Canceled before the hitlag depletes. Few characters have spikes; currently there are 4 characters who have a known spike, and are as follows:

* 1) Falco's Dair.
* 2) Marth's Dair.
* 3) Ganondorf's Aerial Down+B
* 4) Captain Falcon's Nipple Spike (Hitting with the upper half of his body during the dair)
* 5) Roy's smashup (widely unnoticed and hard to hit)[when hit with the proper part of sword sends people down to the ground or off stage)"

From the sound of it this Hamza/Aziz thing does not know much about SSB, and should not continue updating Destructoid readers about the happenings at the DOJO!!

I guess no one else feels this way but I think the footstool jump was a cool idea but will be very rarely used. I never see anyone make it close enough to another person without attacking, perhaps actual use of the move will change my perspective and I hope it does but I just can't see it doing much.

oh yeah also it doesn't say yoshi will have a third jump, just that the egg toss will increase the distance of his other jumps.
