The Smash Bros Brawl interviews conclude: A look at the pre-evolved Smash Bros photo

The end of this seven part series of talks between Super Smash Bros director Mashahiro Sakurai and Nintendo President Satoru Iwata hits today with a look back to the creation of the first Super Smash Bros. It's an inspiring read for any prospective developers out there, as it details the struggle both men endured to create the game with out any initial staff or assistance. These two high powered industry tycoons once worked weekends and in there spare time to create the initial build for Super Smash Bros pictured above. Ten years later that prototype has gone on to become one of the most popular series in video game history.

Part six of the series (which I skipped yesterday) is focused on the music of Smash Bros Brawl, and reveals a few interesting bits of insider information. Sakurai explains his thinking behind the seeming random inclusion of a track from a Japan only GameBoy title X in Brawl's musical score. Turns out that tune was early work by Nintendo composer Totaka, the man who would go on to be the inspiration for the Animal Crossing guitar playing dog Totakeke.

Wow that's so ugly. It probably still would've been a great game.

Also, I KNEW REAPRAR BEFORE HE WAS FAMOUS

It's a really cool interview, and really interesting just how much work these guys did. According to the interview, Sakurai balanced all the characters in Brawl by himself.

Wow, I never knew that Smash Bros. almost had original characters. I definitely prefer the Nintendo-love-in it became.

Wow, I'm glad we got Nintendo characters. The game wouldn't have lost any of its fun factor, but with characters like "Blue and Yellow Guy" and "Black Man in Red Suit," wouldn't have been too memorable.

I think this original Smash cast would make a good trophy/sticker in Brawl.
