The Sims: The Movie: The intensely stupid idea photo

According to Harry Knowles' AICN, 20th Century Fox now has the rights to make a movie adaptation of The Sims based on a script penned by the genius who brought you Scary Movie 3.

Doesn't this sound like exactly the sort of thing I would make up to parody the increasing idiocy of the Hollywood machine as regards gaming? My version would have had a subtext about the increasing irrelevance of the proletariat in our modern, mechanized world, and maybe the word 'indubitably' in it, but otherwise, this whole thing is starting to get eerie.

I'm going to go hide in the cellar. I'll see you down there when the sky starts raining ducks and blood.

"The Sims based on a script penned by the genius who brought you Scary Movie 3."

I know a special little guy that is going to get a kick out of this line.

But yeah, since we are all geeks here, I thought it worth noting that this writer is also doing the Angel: Season 6 comic series with Joss Whedon. And I can only speak for myself, but I think if anyone knows good writing, it's Joss Whedon.

And for the record the writer Brian Lynch did not write Scary Movie 3, he just pitched them a couple of jokes that they looked over and threw away or chose and (ultimately) ruined. A ton of great people did. That's Hollywood's dark secret, every comedy created in the past ten years has thrown money at ACTUAL funny people after the fact in an attempt to salvage a sinking ship.

Brian Lynch is the guy who had cameos in a couple Kevin Smith movies, isn't he? I've heard good things about Big Helium Dog.

As others have already said, to make a Sims movie interesting, and not mind-numbingly boring, you would have to remove all the "mundane, everyday life" stuff that makes up a typical Sims games and add a... you know... plot of some sort. But at that point, you wouldn't be making a movie about The Sims anymore.

I like playing The Sims just fine and all, but the idea of watching a movie based on The Sims is ludicrous. If I wanted to watch people randomly going about their day-to-day stuff, I'd go to a mall or a park or something.
