Electronic Arts and Maxis has been makin’ magic with The Sims titles for years now. If you haven’t been abreast with the latest rumblings on The Sims front, allow me to inform you that the publisher hasn’t been on vacation. The Sims 3 will be unleashed on the PC June 2.
Below the fold is a new “gameplay” trailer that EA tossed us late yesterday afternoon. It’s debatable as to what is actually being controlled, but the point isn’t lost on us: you can do a bunch of new stuff in The Sims 3. The autonomy illustrated in the video is partially thanks to the removal of the comfort and environmental needs. It’s a lot easier to be an artist or focus on being a good one when you don’t have to walk your Sim to the poop bucket every sixteen seconds.
My favourite, was having a kid and putting them in a 2x2 glass box in the living room. Watching the social services try to get to them, and fail. Was a winner.
There are a number of things I could point out about this post. Like the fact that Maxis wasn't involved in the Sims 3, or that the game's already been "unleashed" on Torrent sites (and why not? It's supposedly been ready for release for months and they only delayed it to put more marketing behind its launch).
From the looks of things, there are a number of major improvements, but some seriously odd and possibly back-steps have been reported from yon pirates. In any case, I'm sure that by the end of the year it'll be a vastly enjoyable experience (you know, once the Sims community has had time to figure the game out and make all sorts of custom content that will come to define the game about as much as the game itself... Just like the previous two)
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
"been on vacation"
"will be unleashed on"

Also, I might consider this. Even tho I might lose gamer cred for admitting this, but I enjoyed the Sims and the Sims 2. Need a better comp tho.
