Last night, The Simpsons pulled a South Park and had a World of Warcraft themed episode. The episode starts off with Marge and Homer at a PTA meeting. When it comes time for the parents to give out their e-mails, Springfield finds out a dark secret of Marge's. She doesn't have e-mail! So from there, Marge gets a new computer and dives into the Internets. She eventual discovers a game called Earthland Realms which is pretty much like World of Warcraft. She creates her character, goes on "epic" quests and starts to lose a lot of sleep. She soon comes across a village and discovers that most of Springfield plays the game too. All in all, it was a really funny spoof. The second half of the episode is after the jump. The side story of this episode has Lisa taking up soccer and Homer becoming a soccer referee. The best part of that side story is at the very beginning of the second video. Homer gets into an argument and pulls a Zidane. Sure, they were really late with that joke, but it gives me an opportunity to remind you all about these awesome Zidane gifs we posted awhile back.

Wait, so the Simpsons is still on?
It sucks for the Simpsons because they say it takes 8 months to make an episode. So, theoretically, the Simpsons probably did it before the South Part episode. I heard South Park episodes are made in a little over a week. What can you do, though?
Watching Simpsons now makes me reverse-laugh- it hurts.
The same with any Simpsons parody; funny when you're on the outside, kinda annoying when you're "in" with what they're parodying. Some of the jokes were funny, but ultimately i just smile and nod.
I am definitely not a Simpsons hater, but this one was bad.
this sucked ass, Southpark did it much better, on my way to youtube to watch it and then, WARCRAFT TIME!!!!

hmm could be the case. however still, south park did it better by doing it officially, and it was more funny.
but I guess they did do it in diefferent ways, in their own styles so, I guess it depends on personal preference.

I didn't even crack a smile watching that episode. I only watched because I was bored, and when I was finished watching, I was even more bored.

Episode was cute, packed a few smiles... but SOUTH PARK is hilarious, just like something else in the future will be funnier than SOUTH PARK... just the way things go.

the shows aren't usually made within a week(although it's probably possible), it's just that the process used to animate the show is simple enough to allow them to significantly alter episodes in as little as a week before release. the wow episode was more likely made at least a month in advance, especially since it was the season opener.
Zaron, South Park episodes are made very soon before they air. The topics of episodes can be linked to national events within the last week or two, so they don't mass produce the season early or anything.
The only thing better than the soccer documentary would be some enchanted pants.
Wow, you people are hard to please. It really wasn't trying to be World of Warcraft the way South Park was. I think they realized that when they made it. They were just making fun of the whole concept of mmorpgs. I mean, it could have been EQ they were making fun of.
And how could you not laugh at Moe going under the bridge and saying "da da da da da da daaaaaaah." THAT was funny.

Meh. I only laughed out loud twice during the entire episode. The first time was when Homer sighed and it sounded like a whistle (because he had swallowed his ref’s whistle), and the other was when Brandine mispronounced Ronaldo as “Geraldo”. In other words, it’s a pretty standard Simpsons episode of the past five seasons or so...that is to say, mediocre.
I'm starting to think my funny bone is broken. People tell me that Family Guy is amusing, but it gets the same amount of chuckles from me as the Simpsons does. At least Homer and co. don't interject a 30 second narrative-hijacking pop culture reference every 5 seconds like Family Guy does.
Wait a second, I just remembered that I laugh at pretty much every South Park episode. Though oddly, I didn't laugh much at the WOW episode, it felt too much like a commercial to me.
@michi: Amen. Lisa needs to DIAF, like somewhere around season five or six.
This sucked cock compared to south park.... man I haven't watched simpsons in probably 2 years, but if this is the quality of stuff comin out now... I'm not suprised its only on for another season or two.
This episode wasn't that bad compared to others that came out in the last years. But concerning WoW spoofs South Park is definately better...
By the way: Does anyone know the song that's played when Virgin Mary fights on the field?

Southpark did do it better ("how do you kill, that which has no life"... still priceless), but i'm not sure why so many poeple were effected by it... the differences were so strong that i was barely reminded of the southpark episode

Actually south park can be animated in a very short amount of time... including pre-production such as storyboards and scripts, i'd say it probably takes 2 weeks... Hell just recently they had a 300 parody, and the movie only came out like 1-2 weeks before that... their animation style is just that damn simple

I laughed twice. Once at the "what did you do with the real moe" bit, and at the end when moe pondered his subscription fee. Since when was moe the best character in the simpsons anyway? Goddamn, that show has gone downhill. I mean, that's nothing new, but nothing like watching an episode to hammer home the point. I will give the episode bonus points for the virgin mary beating people up though.

Yeah. Im a huge Simpsons fan from way back, but this one I had to struggle to make it most of the way through. Of course, I am playing Rapala's fishing game on the 360, so what in the fuck do I know?

The funniest line was the very last one.
"Why am I paying 14.95 a month for this?" because I thought the same damn thing when I played WoW. I got to lvl 30 and said "Yep. I'm gonna go do something else with my time and money."
Been clean from WoW for 5 months now. I dunno why so many people have such a problem quitting the addiction.
Now, Diablo II (and III down the road) might be a different story...
will people get off south parks dick already, this had a real story to it and they did not rush it out just to do it like south park does ever to everything. this was way more better and the whole socer side story was great. i argree with broham

Wow...the virgin mary coming alive & fighting? Actual JEWELS coming out of the 'dark night's' crotch?? lame..alhough I do like South Park & Family Guy more, I am still a Simpsons fan ever since the first episode. But stuff like virgin mary & jewels part just had me going 'wtf...gay'.

While it wasn't the best thing I've ever seen, I watched it without endlessly comparing it to South Park as most of the commentators seem to have done, and found it enjoyable. Not fantastic, but enjoyable. And that's okay.
I thought it was a pretty good episode.
I didn't know about the South Park one (I don't really care for it)but it did have a few LOL moments for me when Nelson went "Haha" crashed into the wall and fell into the fire... iunno maybe I like retarded stuff like that lol, the virgin mary was also pretty funny.

This episode was just shit. No beating around the bush, It didnt get it's facts right for a start.
1.It's not called Soccer, it's Football.
2. Ronaldo plays for AC Milan, Not Real Madrid
3. Ronaldo is fat.
4. Free Kicks, not Direct Kicks.
Also, the storyline was retarded, Lisa gets pissed off at Homer because Homer did the right thing in sending her off ? Yeah, Smart. The WoW spoof was also the same low quality drivel you've come to expect from the Simpsons in recent times.
For Matt Groening's sake, He better be using a script from when the show was still funny for the film, or it's going to flop like a "Flopper" or what real football fans would call a Diver, ( or a Cristiano .

did anyone think that this episode is a (lame) retaliation for the "Simpson's did it" episode of South Park (Capitan Chaos and friend General Disarray) try to overthrow South Park and Disarray says the Simpson's did the exact plan that Chaos is trying?
I would have liked this episode better if it didn't give me cancer.
It was an average episode, and South Park DID do it better but I guess it's just the trend these days for people to be on the Simpsons hate wagon.
There were some funny gags and lines (mostly involving Moe) but it did tread a lot of old territory with Marge/Bart and Homer/Lisa. Still, if you say it's outright BAD you probably had a bias against the Simpsons in the first place.
It wasn't necessarily a spoof of WoW. There are other MMOs that could apply... Everquest...
The Simpsons are not as specific as South Park.
