The Return ... of REBOOT! photo

What? YES! Ladies and gentlemen, sit down, take a deep breath, then drink in the sweeping grandeur. The ridiculously awesome, awesomely ridiculous CG cartoon show, ReBoot, which entertained the masses back in 1994, is getting a remake with a series of three feature-length films. For those of you too young or pathetic to know the camp glory of ReBoot, it focused on a fantasy world contained within a computer, its characters and locations taken from actual computing components. The show stood out for having legitimately great characters and storylines. Evil viruses Megabyte and Hexidecimal were actually believable, threatening villains to this young child and the writing was somewhat intelligent, even if dripping with deus ex machina.

Needless to say, the adventures of guardian Bob as he enters the computer's videogames to protect its Mainframe were among my childhood staples and I am very much going to be checking out what Rainmaker Animation does to update the old classic. Sadly, the suave and sophisticated voice behind the megalomaniacal Megabyte, Tony Jay, is no longer of this mortal realm and I fear his presence will not be replaced easily, but I hope someone does the role justice. Now that I've utterly geeked myself out, I shall now retire to play with my Hack & Slash action figures.

I wish I had Hack & Slash action figures.

[I originally saw the headline for this news from Evil Avatar but cannot access their site to link the story. I love 'em anyway.]

Oh Shit! I remember when this was on Toonami, the graphics probably suck now, but I recall it was amazing back then to me. Glad to hear the news.

The Evil Dead "parody" still sticks out in my mind as one of the best episodes in cartoon history.

They say the User lives outside the Net, and inputs Games for pleasure. No one knows for sure, but I intend to find out. Reboot!

Wait, didn't someone already report on this here? I remember reading it.

Anyway, I got into that show a little late. I was starting to dig it and suddenly it was pulled. I kind of missed it, but eventually forgot about it. But, I did like the one that parodied Ash from Evil Dead and Army of Darkness.

By the way, am I the only person who thinks that Megabyte looked like Vorador from the Legacy of Kain series? Ironically, Tony Jay did a voice for that series as well, it was Vorador though, it was the Elder God. He was a great voice actor.

.....I....my Dad and I used to watch this show and.....I....I think if Peter Moore came in and watched it with me as we ate pizza and drank hard liqour until we ended up in akward sexually suggestive positions it could only make this better. :l I blacked out what happened?

I am not ruining awesome things. I am a huge fan of Reboot, i used to watch it on Cartoon Network all the time back in the day. Getting a new Reboot series makes me excited, but I want real Reboot. I read through all the pitches and none of them made me excited.

Oh, awesome! I was always really proud that it was a Canadian show. Strangely, I had that Pirates of Penzance parody they did in the last episode (that really GOOD Pirates of Penzance parody they did, it still makes me laugh)

@Morbo47: That wasn't Pirates of Penzance, that was a parody of the song 'A Modern Major General' from the musical 'HMS Pinafore' by Rodgers and Hammerstein!

Also, who are these RAINMAKER fools and what happened to the original, (proudly) Canadian creators of the show, Mainframe Entertainment? Makers of 'Beasties'/'Beast Wars'/'Beast Machines' as well. Oh, and Shadow Raiders! Man, that show rocked too. Please someone tell me they watched Shadow Raiders too. Or.. umm, it might have been called.. 'War Planets' in the states, maybe?

Anyway, I still have all that junk on tape, woohoo.

Has anyone actually checked out the 5 different companies competing to make the pilot? Only a few of them really seem ReBoot like and the rest are totally raping the show.

They aren't continuing the series they're "re-imagining" it, which sets off the RED ALURTS like crazy.

I wasn't completely sure, never having seen either, but I always associated 'Modern Major General' with 'Pirates of Penzance', and all the sites I double checked before posting agreed that my association was/is correct.

at braulio09; the only thing that comes to mind is Beast Wars. Also a great show, and it ended well.

Just remembered that Beast Wars ended after 3 seasons and picked back up as Beast Machines for the final 2 seasons. In case anyone is trying to find those episodes :-)

Also, don't bother with Beast Wars II. I never watched it, but I didn't hear anything good about the series, and it had very little, if anything, to do with the story line of the above.
