It's possible that in the aggregate, video games will cause aggression, and it's equally possible that it will reduce aggression.
However, no matter which results the studies reach, it will still be an aggregate result by comparison of averages, and it makes no sense to apply that generalized result to individual situations, because for some people, it will cause the results the law intends to prevent.
For example, if you make violent games mandatory for children, then some disturbed kid will copycat the game. If you make violent games forbidden for children, then some disturbed kid will get no release for his tendencies and become violent.
The question some people are asking is which one happens more, with the intent of applying legislative force in the opposite direction, however, that would be an 'ends justify the means' decision which would ruin people's lives for the sake of improving a few statistics.
To advocate legislation of video game sales is an assertion that parents and children are not as knowledgeable about their own lives as someone in some government building who has never met them, and that's a dangerous idea.
