The Podcastle episode 32: Sheep on the Gaza strip photo

In today's hiccup-free episode of The Podcastle, we discuss the Six Days in Fallujah "controversy," why a harmless PETA stunt in World of Warcraft caused undue outrage, and the insane popularity of the DSi. In less videogamey news, we also say some things about Jade Goody (the racist, blowjob-giving candle in the wind) and come up with a unique way of solving, or exacerbating, the Israel/Palestine conflict.

Thanks go to Shakey1245, again, for the awesome intro to this week's episode. You can check us out at our usual hangout on the official Podcastle page, or subscribe via iTunes in that way you trendy gits do. Please enjoy the show after the listening to it with your ears!

I don't think Wardrox actually read my question. Sounds like he thought I wanted to discuss Jim's article. Ah well.

I think its ironic that you guys brought up how peta has "earned their reputation" with their ridiculous stunts, crazy behavior, etc., yet you (well, Jim largely) are arguing that "maturity hasn't worked, so you just have to roll up your sleeves and fight back / act immaturely"? isn't that what peta has been doing for years?

now, dont get me wrong. peta is lame, their cause is (mostly) quite stupid in my opinion. however, the parallels are clear between the two cultures -- both are trying to get a largely stand-off-ish public to accept their culture / ideology. obviously, peta's immature / extremist behavior has not worked. so why should gamers engage in similar behavior ("cyber-vandalism")? in my opinion, until gamers wise up and stop acting like children, we deserve to have our games taken away. the bottom line is gamers need to raise their reputation through example. there aren't any shortcuts, and tolerating immature behavior of the gaming community direct outward needs to stop.

i understand the frustration happening within the gaming community, but we, as a community, need to be more levelheaded and teach these children posting "lets own his noob ass" by example.

"They were referring to the same fucking foxes I can hear mating all night outside my fucking window" was what I was thinking Lauren's squeel was all about.... all the way through and then you reveal it to be pigs at the end. I'm shattered.

two other things.... Jim, really great commentary on the Jade Goody thing - really really love your incite on these matters, spot on more often than not and, in particular here... From Diana to Jade, oh how we've fallen.

Needs moar Atheistium though!
