The Perfect Sequel: Crackdown 2 photo

Everyone has played a game and thought “You know what they should add in the sequel?” Sometimes you would get lucky and said feature would make it into numero dos, but chances are more often than not the sequel came and went, sans your awesome idea. However, the Internet is a helluva drug, and a handful of developers have really put an effort in to listen to their fans and critics by giving gamers what they want, be it through downloadable content, patches, expansion packs, or full-blown sequels.

One such company is Real Time Worlds, the talented peeps responsible for this year’s smash hit Crackdown and the upcoming APB. Even if the ending hadn’t spelled out “S-E-Q-U-E-L!” on your forehead, the overwhelming success of the game should have made it a no-brainer, perhaps even as soon as sometime in 2008 (although nothing solid has been announced just yet).

The game was quite a bit of fun, and the massive open-ended, over-the-top mayhem opens up a lot of possibilities. Many of you undoubtedly have your own ideas of how Crackdown 2 could be bigger and better, and in case those didn’t make it into any of the awesome DLC, now’s your chance to let your voice be heard.

The way this works is, you post your ideas (or discuss other people’s) and once the thread goes limp, Destructoid will deliver it all to Real Time Worlds personally. We can’t guarantee that your idea to have Rick Astley as an unlockable character, or the boss battle with the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man will make it into the game, but we can promise that your ideas will at least be heard by the people who could make it happen.

This is your opportunity to have a direct impact on the games you want to play. So, what you got?

have it come with halo 4 beta?
or halo wars?
the only reason it sold so many... serious...

it could've used a few more guns... maybe some cooler ratchet and clank style stuff...

also... needed more side missions

Personally I'd like to see more variety in the mission objectives. Rather than "go to point A and kill this dude" a few dozen times, I'd like to have to chase someone once in a while (perhaps them in a vehicle and me on the rooftops), or need to complete some requirements in order to make them expose themselves.

One mission in the first game touched on this a little, where you need to blow up three gas pipes before the boss will come out of the building, and even though it was very simple, it was a nice way to change up the gameplay a bit.

Second to that, I'd like to see customizable outfits and especially some female peace keepers.

They should definitely keep "street racing". The driving physics in Crackdown were top notch IMO, and it made for some enjoyable races.

Improvements? Like William Haley says above, more variety in missions is a must. The game is extremely capable and with some imagination, I'm sure they could come up with some awesome objectives.

Hmm...

1. A jetpack would be pretty sick.

2. 4-player co-op, since everyone wants it these days.

3. Vehicles with more seats, so I can drive while my buddies shoot.

4. Maybe a double or triple jump?

5. If destructible environments make it in there, give the Agents some inertia to go with 'em. Effortlessly plowing through gangs and cars, only to come to an instantaneous dead stop when I hit a sign, is a bit frustrating. Even without destructible environments (a pretty tall order, I'm sure), just make them bounce a little or something...

6. I'm also jumping on the "more mission variety" bandwagon.

7. And please add an option to disable the lock-on for corpses. I love juggling them when I have a free moment, but in a firefight it's just a nuisance. Let us turn that shit on and off as we please, please.

8. Also, cocks (somebody had to say it).

More evolved Hand-to-Hand combat = <3.

You put down your weapon, then you hit the target button and it zooms to the poor bastard you are about to kick the shit out. Then instead of holding the button, maybe a toggle-like function in order to have all the buttons free to kick/punk/grab. You can start with some simple stuff and then learn different combos, grabs, and other bone snappin stuff to brake the fuck out of everyone in sigh.

It should add a lot of different to the "attack button" old stuff. Ripping arms, legs and heads off... like Dead Rising. Then a mission in where you get kidnapped and have to escape but just kicking the shit out of everybody with your bare hands.

More moves to fuck people who are already on the ground. Like kicking is good but what about punching, grabing his head and bash it to the floor, do the Macho Man flying elbow from the top of a 10 story bulding (no chance to miss due to target lock)...

... just dont be lazy and add proper unarmed combat.

1. more free-running kind of shit (running up walls for short periods of times, perhaps even climbing up brick walls, etc.)

2. this might go against the style of the game, but i'd like a deeper plot/storyline

3. the game needs boobs. i mean, come on.

Unlockable transforming car (good tie-in with the movie and Voltron ). Which uses your skill in rockets and guns and uses your ammo so it won't be to imba.

Female peacekeepers should definately evolve bigger... hotter physical aspects when they do more heat damage.

Unlockable special move with your car, so you don't have to handbrake turn into groups of ppl you just had to mob together. Like an instant 360 degree spin with some car and some leveled stats or something.

Obviously, agent enemies, for epic battles around the city.

More guns, and a longer path to be able to get them, so you aren't using the best gun in the game 90% of the time you are playing.

The ability to kick off of a wall, allowing you to do more than just go in straight line routes.

The ability to lets say, swing an item you pick up, rather than just throwing them(allowing for the awesome "pick up a pole and carve a swath" gameplay).

Make it take longer to level up, so it feels like more of an accomplishment, and there is more to do.

Maybe the ability to catch/swipe away a missle/rocket if a counter is timed right.

A "long jump" addition(like mario 64) instead of always arcing upwards, more like a straight forward but less vertical jump.

A knee-drop like move leaving a crater and hurting all enemies near where you land.

Some sort of eye upgrading system, possibly leading to seeing powerups/orbs/enemies through walls when very close, or just the ability to see very far. Somehow this one seems very stupid, but I just have a gut feeling I would like sitting on top of a building, seeing something halfway across the map, then making my way over there with my super soldiers. Maybe this would be useful if some of the enemies hid, or just moved around and you had to find them.

Agency garages were you can get/start out with an agency vehicle in each of the areas.

The ability to hang off of an edge, roof, etc, and fire a gun with the other hand, it would just be nice to rain hell directly downward.

Possibly a suit with small flaps of some sort allowing for some short range gliding(making it easier to infiltrate defenses and get away from mobs).

Maybe have EXTREMELY hard areas of the game, and allow for a "call for backup" option, making the game a bit larger in scale. Maybe the call for backup could even be lead by or consist solely of, an ally agent. Or maybe even a clone of you, making your level/powers even more important

Psychic powers(AKA force push/pull etc). Obviously this won't be added, but I have to suggest it out of sheer hope.

Multiple save slots. So I can start a brand new game without sacrificing the old...(I liked to be able to have a fully maxed guy, but play the game from scratch.) So I was always deleting old games.

Increase the athletic cap. I felt that the super athletics from "the keys to the city" should have been the cap in the regular game. Then there should have been some uber athletic skill for "the keys to the city"

Diversity in machine guns

Diversity in missions

I never actually felt the need to drive a car, I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

The grappling hook idea almost gave me a geek-gasm thinking of how it would work. Instant Spider-Man action there.

More options in terms of navigating through the skyscrapers such as the free-running mentioned before. Jumping through a street and bounding off one sky scraper to the next moving forward and leaving a lasting mark on the building.

Bigger bosses. Don't care about a mob-boss with a fancy building. Give me a crazy dude with a mech or some bad experiment. Even a Bizzaro Agent that's all deformed, but equal to your stats.

Be able to crush the cars with the agency vehicles, i.e. more destuction if possible.

That's all I can offer at the moment.

The game could improve vastly with some actually melee combat. Kicking people is fun for the first ten minutes, and then you realize it's the only melee move you have. I've seen a couple of people talk about this, but I should be able to punch, grapple, swing shit around and hit people.

Having mobile or (at least) badass bosses would also make a huge difference. Killing crowds of weak baddies to kill a slightly less weak baddy is fine for a couple of missions, but how about a boss in a helicopter or a boss that has some huge badass weapon or has agility skills comparable to agents.

Those fucking troll/genetic experiment things would be a hell of a lot cooler/less annoying if they could do something besides crawl and melee.

I just want to be challenged. When I played through the first time, Wang killed himself before I even saw him. That's bullshit. Wang should be a total badass, not some suicidal old man.

The free-running stuff is solid, but the combat needs a major overhaul.

Maybe a plot with consequences. Take Crackdown 2 out of the city and maybe have other places to visit, mountains and desert. Having the ability to help a gang. Swing weapons, instead of just throwing them like a roid raged muscle man. Better music. Some more acrobatic dynamics; jumping off a wall to get more air, instead of just hitting a wall and sliding down. You can't build a game off of just explosions, so maybe implosions.

Squad based combat. The peacekeepers just stared at me when I needed their help. Some less obscure objectives. Did I say story? Maybe a church you can explode?

Perhaps there could be a class system to the agents. If there were indeed more than 2-player coop, this could mean one could take on a support / medic role, another a heavy weapons guy, a long-range sniper type, and a ninja / covert ops type, all with different abilities like the double jump, grappling hook, etc. for a very specific and unique feel to each.

I'd also like a better atmosphere. Say for instance a massive firefight is going down between the police forces and a gang. I'd like to hear that get called in over my earpiece, and here the mayhem of the action in the background and the desperation of the officer calling it in as he begs for reinforcements.

With that in mind, I'd also like to be able to control the police forces a bit more. Perhaps being able to give them orders, or at least call in backup to a certain position. At the very least they could bring a vehicle to my location, or bring in a helicopter with a search light for a boss who has hidden in an abandoned factory district or something like that.

I'd like the ability to interact with objects a little more. Someone mentioned being able to kick off walls, and I'd also like to be able to grab oncoming vehicles or jump up and grab a helicopter as it rocketed overhead.

Finally, when I jump a great distance and land on a car, I'd like the car to get crushed appropriately, like in the Matrix Reloaded when the agent jumps from car to car on the freeway. That would be freaking awesome.

i absolutely love Crackdown, true online co-op, blowing (tons of) shit up with a buddy in "Keys to the city" is nothing short of ideal. NOT TO MENTION DRIVING UP THE SIDE OF A SKYSCRAPER WITH 5 BAD DUDES HARPOONED TO YOUR HOOD.

The agents abilities to traverse the city on foot in epic fashion quiets my need for flying vehicles but I think we may still see more DLC soon.

Crackdown should be a system seller and not already forgotten as a Halo beta pack-in

PLEASE ASK RTW TO INCLUDE TEAM BASED OPEN WORLD CAPTURE THE FLAG, ORB HUNT, OR RACE MISSIONS!

I hope All Points Bulletin makes its way to 360

The main thing I want is Super bosses that are on your level physically combined with an improved/expanded melee system in an environment that shows damage if not fully destructible.

I think there would be some epic battles if you had to go hand to hand with a super poewered boss where you're constantly throwing each other into buildings, through neon signs, and busting the glass of nearby cars when you land a bad ass punch.

Also, yeah, at least 4 player co-op/ deathmatch would be very awesome as well.

Here is what i want from CD2

super powers. period.

i want to level up my agility and have to choose between flight or super speed or something else then special challenges for that ability to make it better.

strength to super strength the ability to run through walls ala the Juggernaut. ect.

i know i said period... and i meant it... but i have more to say.

a transforming mech-a-car would be sweet. planes. more story more missions.

i really like the idea of the upgradable vision.

i really want to pick up a living person, hear them beg for their life and then laugh as i throw them a mile away.

the ability to swing cars/objects.

i would like to have several different agents that i can use at a moments notice that i have upgraded differently. ie on that can fly, one that is super fast ect.

an air drop for cars, fuck a garage i want a chopper to fly in and drop my car off... i also want that chopper to be shot down if they have rockets.

while i am at it... a side kick with witty remarks that never stop... make him invincible too so i have something to complain about.

As a genetically engineered supercop myself, I would have liked to have seen some of the things that I have at my disposal on a day-to-day basis make their way into a game about my line of work.

The most obvious of all omissions is more personalization options for the player mesh, from having female options to being able to tweak blendshapes in order to completely personalize my in-game appearance; give the player some options for character personalization that are more than just "Goth agent, Black agent, Sunglasses agent".

I would have liked to experience more diversity in character evolution in general in the game. I enjoyed improving my skills over time in a way that didn't take me out of the game and to a menu to allot points, but in hindsight, I would have rather been able to do so than simply just ending up a cookie cutter max level agent with no distinguishing abilities.

Not a day goes by in my line of work where I am not using an agency-developed evolving melee weapon, and I would like to see something along those lines implemented in a sequel. Perhaps granting access to strength-based and agility-based melee weaponry that evolved along with your abilities would be fun. I wouldn't turn down the opportunity to baseball bat a Los Muertos rig off of the highway with my agency-issued evolving strength-based uberbaton, would you? Likewise with my agility-based megakatana +1.

From personal experience, I can tell you that being genetically modified has its ups and downs. There are many vices that cater specifically to the supercops of the world. Black Market weapons, munitions and genetic enhancements are big business and would make for some interesting moral choices on the part of the player as they develop their character.

Storyline be damned, I say. I don't have much of a storyline in my daily work, and I don't expect videogame supercops to have much in theirs. However, one strikingly absent concept of Crackdown was the total lack of crime going on. Sure, you could force gang members into attacking you, but there was no ambient threat to the civility of Pacific City other than the random shootouts that would spring up from local peacekeepers witnessing gang members get into fender benders. I would relish in the idea of being able to see bank heists, turf wars and breaking & entering. As entertaining as Crackdown was, it wasn't very compelling in that area.

Flying, or at least hovering, vehicles would be nice. Even if I didn't get to pilot one, the threat of vertically-inclined combatants was sadly not present in Crackdown and would be a fun addition in a sequel.

Gadgets. I was born in a science lab; where's my wrist-mounted grappling hook? Sure, the optical camo option from Colby was a nice inclusion, but if there is always room for Jell-o, then there is always room for brilliant gadgets. A backpack that can deploy into a turret that you can mount on the ground and atop vehicles? A communications device that you can use to air-drop in agency vehicles in a pinch? I would settle for a grappling hook to swing around on, provided that I could use it to fish out my agency vehicle from the briny deep as well, but I would hope to see more coll technological gadgetry in general make its way into a sequel.

Finally, a game mode suggestion: Freak Apocalypse. Being able to replace all gang members and peacekeepers with Czernenko's ghoulish test subjects would be incredibly fun. I'm a little surprised that this option hasn't been included in Crackdown as downloadable content already, and I would gladly hand you my money if I could go up against a ravening horde of the misanthropic beasts.
