The Organic Indie Preorder Pack postmortem is a mouthful photo

A few weeks back, Wolfire Games and Unknown Worlds offered a preorder bundle that included both Overgrowth and Natural Selection 2. Yesterday, the overall results of that sale were released on the Wolfire blog.

To make a long story short, the sale went well. Really well, in fact. Within the span of a week, Wolfire received more Overgrowth preorders than they'd managed to accumulate in an entire year. And since the deal was directly set up by Wolfire and Unknown Worlds, with no corporate middlemen or marketing budget, all that preorder money translates into pure profit between both companies.

It's always a pleasure to see indies finding creating their own, successful business models. Regardless of how the games even turn out, one has to appreciate the fact that Wolfire and Unknown Worlds are basically getting their fans to directly finance the production of their games. Which, of course, leads to that inevitable question: when is Overgrowth gonna be done, anyway?

This is awesome. I would have bought it but I'm not really buying things at prices over 30-40 euros until the end of the year and the games didn't really appeal to me aesthetically. I bought Stalker: Call of Pripyat for 23 euros, but that's about it. Hell, even Mass Effect 2, which I'm eagerly anticipating and can't wait to play will have to wait until Christmas Steam sales or something similar.

I'll stick with Interstellar Marines and its releases as far as community funded Indie games go. Also, Steam sales are awesome. Buying Company of Heroes and Psychonauts for 2 euros each, as well as buying Raven Shield on play.com for around 3-4 euros is just a steal, but one I'm perfectly happy commiting. :D

Again PC gaming is awesome. I wish all the best to Wolfire and Unknown Worlds.

Oh my god that is fucking awesome! I love Lugaru so much, I'll definitely get Overgrowth. I wasn't even sure it was still being made. It's looking amazing though.

I bought it. Most because of Overgrowth. Appears unique.
In fact, I have bought a lot of indie games lately. Are they getting better or I'm getting old and tired of the sameness of mainstream?

I never heard of Overgrowth. I always heard of Natural Selection and how good it is, I'm interested.

Hey Anthony, I wouldn't expect Overgrowth anytime soon, unfortunately. Jeff is only in the early stages of alpha development; they haven't even finished the engine, let alone content development. I certainly hope they can deliver on their promises because Overgrowth looks to be very interesting. Anthropomorphism ftw.
