The lack of GTAIV in the finalists makes me happy.
No GTA on the list makes me happy though. *ducks*
One of the best games I have played my gaming life, it's that good.
Still, I can't express how much I love you guys for having Lost Odyssey up there (even though we all know Braid's winning).
This is a tough year. It's really a big toss up between Left 4 Dead and MGS4...Really tough decision.
My vote has to go for Braid. I haven't played MGS4 yet, so I can't vote for it even though it likely would have gotten my vote.
Left 4 Dead would be a close second, but it's just not important enough. Braid has changed the way I look at games. Left 4 Dead is just a hell of a lot of fun.
Did I mention Metal Gear Solid 4? I can't wrap my brain around how it can even be debated.
Holy Hell MGS4 was one of the most amazing titles I've ever played. One of my favorite things about playing games are the "Wow" factor you get with a new game sometimes....you know...the "Wow" from that brand new game that everyone has been hyping.
MGS4, I think, was the best title of the year. I played through the campaign once, and thats it...I havn't touched it since, but I still think it's the best title out of all the titles I've played...even if not as addictive as some.
If you havn't played it, you should. If you have played it, you know why I'm saying this.
ps. God I love Gamefly, gave me all the wonderful games without killing my pocket
Towards the end of development they decided to revise the character designs to come up with the cleaner, more distinctive ones they have now.

Rant time: Left 4 Dead is only here because the DToid writers had some stupid joygasm over this game. Its a generic floaty shooter with 4-player co-op, something Halo 3 did how many years ago? Its campaign is painfully short, its gameplay is repetative, its graphics are mediocre-at-best for this generation, and its controls are very stripped down for an FPS. The only replayability that comes from this game is by being attacked by zombies from point A versus point B. Go play CoD:W@W's Nazi Zombie mode and you'll play a much more satisfying version of Left 4 Dead. This game constantly feels like nothing more than a Zombie mod for Half Life.
Also... the lack of GTA4 amongst the finalists makes me extremely happy.

I think I have to get Braid though, haven't bought anything on the XBLM and it looks like a good place to start.
I also agree that GTA:IV doesn't deserve to be GOTY, it's good but not that good.
I do feel that Ecclesia deserves a little more limelight though...
It's not bad, but I definitely wouldn't put it as a nominee for GotY. Especially when there's more deserving Honorable Mentions.
GTA4 is also not GOTY material either.
MGS4 or Fallout3 gets my vote!
Personally, I would have to vote for Braid with L4D in a close second. And 3rd would go to Earth Defense Force 2017! (fucking loved that game)
Seriously, a game that incorporates lightsabers, accurate dismemberment, a guy who shoots Kamehamehas from his crotch, a female alternative to Afro Samurai, a chick who bats gimps at you, and a satirical equivalent of every predictable cliche in the book DOESN'T make the final cut?
A travesty if there ever was one.
One of the few original IPs to come out this year to market and a truly top-notch traditional RPG that puts Final Fantasy to shame. They've truly crafted a game which had an engrossing story and extremely likable characters with great voice actors all wrapped up with the traditional Japanese RPG battle system that was modified in such a way to negate many problems of the genre but not to the extent to alienate fans.
Vey few games made me as emotional as Lost Odyssey did.
I truly enjoyed Lost Odyssey and hope it wins Destructoid's Game of the Year.
