I actually have a lot of respect for cosplayers. The dedication it takes to fashion an outfit based on your favorite videogame, comic book, or American Idol contestant is astounding. Truly, we've seen some amazing displays of skill and attention to detail. But sometimes, the complete lack of shame is well ... a bit unnerving, to say the least.
Gameist's recent feature, "The 9 Levels of Cosplay Hell," breaks down the reasons why I try not to leave the house. What if I happen to run into someone -- or something -- dressed up like Yuna from Final Fantasy? And worse yet, what if I can't forget what I've seen?
You've probably seen a lot of this stuff before; the "Tron Guy," for instance, is a classic example of ... OK, I don't really know what the hell is going on there. But it's nice to have some of this stuff in one place, if only to get it out of your system and move on.
OK, now that we've been subjected to this, somebody please -- salvage my weekend and show me example of some amazing cosplay.
[Thanks, darkair!]
I think only Red Bull and Grey Goose can save me now.
If you disagree try finding the uncensored photo and you will understand.
I feel really sorry for the dogs, actually.

Here you are:
I liked it, at least.
Please tell me this is a costume and not just paint.
Speaking of which, where were you all at Katsucon #15?

It wasn't favorite hard to find it without the censor. WHY SPIDEY-PENIS WHY!!
Favorite hard? Shit, I don't know how that came about. I guess I got Spidey on my mind now, great job... haha
I see your Samus and raise you another Samus:
and a pretty damn good Yuna:
Of course, the Japanese are light years ahead of us in terms of cosplay.
Oh God...is that some sort of camel toe...actually I don't want to know
I like the first Samus better. (the one darkair posted)
To each his own. darkair's woman definitely matches the Samus look better but there's not much that can be done about race or ethnicity when it comes to cosplay. Still, you're quite right.
What really bothers me is the excessive and cheesy Photoshopping. Also, one of the biggest problems I find with cosplay is that 99% of the time the costume doesn't look remotely real. Sure, a lot of people put time and effort into reconstructing something out of quality materials but they always end up looking waaaaay too clean. Look at Mirax's Link picture. It's pretty impressive except his tights are so white it hurts. It's like bad CG in live-action movies--if it's too clean it looks fake. For example, The Lord of the Rings films did a pretty damn impressive job of overcoming this problem by making their CG and props look used while a lot of the stuff in the first Chronicles of Narnia film looked all shiny and new.
I just realized I'm writing way too much for a cosplay post, so I'm going to stop.
Dios mio por que
Granted, if they jumped around in public in such, er, costumes, then yes, we might have to look into public-decency laws, but they are attending a closed convention.
Personally, I don't understand any type of cosplay at all... it's really strange to me. But if people enjoy it, then we should let everyone enjoy it, not just the good-looking people.
I TAKE BACK WHAT I JUST SAID!
PLEASE, NO MORE.
A horrendously obese male with unreasonably hairy legs dressed up as Pretty Sasami:
His taller and somewhat thinner male friend was dressed as Pixy Misa. Same guy later seen wearing a costume from a hentai game called Animal Magnetism. (A bunny girl named Milk.)
...I still have nightmares.
The Dailycostume.com is your sorce for all the great cosplay
I can't unsee it :(
it's like Dr Manhattan, only with fail.
