The next Team Fortress 2 update will be a Heavy one photo

Now that the Medic and Pyro have gotten their updates, there has been some speculation over which class Valve would be releasing new weapons and achievements for next. Although there were some rumors that it would be the Spy -- complete with fake update posters! -- Valve has announced that the next update will be for everyone’s favorite minigun wielder, the Heavy Weapons Guy.

Valve has also decided to start giving us some insight on why exactly they make the changes they do in an attempt to be more open with their development process. In the latest post on the official Team Fortress 2 blog, Robin Walker talks about the need to set clear goals on what needs to be accomplished before the idea pitching process begins.

“We do design collaboratively at Valve, and one of the side effects of it is that we really need to be able to evaluate design ideas as objectively as possible. Otherwise design meetings would devolve into subjective arguing. We've found that the best method of working objectively is to have clear goals up front. Once we've got clear goals, we can throw a bunch of ideas up on the board and measure how well each idea achieves those goals. Often the work of testing those ideas against the goals causes us to further refine or clarify the goals.”

She sets forth their latest goal: finding a way to make the Heavy more viable when there aren’t any medics hovering around, and lays out several constraints and parameters that need to be kept in mind when coming up with a solution. If you want to try coming up with your own awesome idea to solve the design goal (and rub it in Valve’s face), then head on over to the blog entry and give it a read.

Damn it Valve, where's my spy update. But then again EVERYONE would be a spy, but then again I don't know whether that's amazingly awesome, or horrible xD

I hope it's better than the Pyro update.

I must admit, I wish they'd release two class updates at a time, even if it takes twice as long to complete, as I'm tired of entire servers of the same class.

Which this will do. Again.

Sigh.

They should definitely get brass knuckles as their unlockable melee weapon. Either that or a hammer and a sickle.

@Blackhat

pssst.... here's a secret... wait a week after the update dies down, play another game for a bit or go to the beach or something, then go for the achievement!

win win!

Blackhat, it wasnt as bad as the medic I don't think.

Yea it was worse numbers wise in the beginning, but it went back to normal much quicker.

Justin, here's a ProTip: Robin Walker is a man, not a woman.

I'm excited. I can't imagine what they have in store for the Heavy. I kind of wish that fake Spy update was real, though. I love those weapons, and also the "Gentlemen" achievement. :)

If all they did for this next update was add some new lines for the heavy then I'd still be happy.

I home Sasha gets blades on the end of the barrel, so you can wave her around as a melee weapon with the barrel spinning and knock people away from you while causing some damage. Help balance out the Backburner and other in your face attacks that the heavy is so helpless against. Spin in circles with the barrel spinning (still walks slow) to knock people off all around you in a circle. Of course the Heavy may be upset about swatting people with his love interest, so maybe a lower powered one (Sasha's stepsister Nadia?) that gets no crits as the downside... And then he can talk about Sasha and Nadia as separate people - "Nadia makes the best borscht!"

Oh, the irony.

This is listed under the Xbox 360 sub-blog, even though they haven't gotten a single update yet.

I'm looking forward to this one, the Heavy's my favorite. Point, click, so much blood. So simple and elegant.

I got an idea how about not screwing up what worked the first time around. What dumbass came to the conclusion and said, hey the Heavy, let make him dependent on a medic. Then who the hell stood up and said HELL YA!, that exactly what I want to do follow some dude around a plug him from behind with my ghost buster gun.

Screw the whole ideas on boards thing, how about an IQ test at the door before you get into the meeting.
