The newest man in Mega Man's life: Introducing Fake Man photo

Next Monday, Mega Man 9 will be graced with the last of its currently announced DLC. For those who thought the game was too easy, two new difficulty levels will be made available for 100 Wii points each. Perhaps more enticing is the Special Stage that will go on sale for the same price. This all new stage will not only be "special", but according to a new interview with the games producer Hironobu Takeshita, the stage will have it's own boss as well.

Many were hoping this boss would be Mega Man's long time rival Bass, or maybe his best-friend/worst-enemy Zero, but instead, it's the fake cop robot who falsely arrested Dr Wright/Light at the beginning of the game. At least, that's why I'm guessing he's called Fake Man. Trust me, I'd love this news to be fake. But if not, if Fake Man really is the star of "Special Stage", not only will a whole lot of Mega Man fans will be passing on this DLC, but we'll also have one more reason to link the term "special" with the term "retarded".

Not that there's anything wrong with being that. Retarded, I mean.

I would just like to point out that if this is true the "best Megaman 9 player on Dtoid" (that's me) won't be buying the DLC. Just pathetic.

Well . . .

At least we got Mega Man 9 and Proto Man!

Expect a run down on Monday on all the new MM9 DLC. I'll play Special Stage as many times as necessary in order to scope out it's full level of worth.

Zero doesn't exist yet and is not Megaman's best-friend/worst-enemy. He never even meets Megaman (except MAYBE to kill him, if you're into fanon). He's X's best-friend/worst-enemy. X is not Megaman. X is, at best, Megaman's younger brother.

Are you one of those guys who thinks "Megaman X" is "Megaman Ten"?

I wanted to say something about yer incorrect Zero statement but JDavis beat me to it.

Anyhow, that special stage == EPIC FAIL no matter how amazing the level is just because of the boss. Or maybe they're just leading us on...

OH PLEASE LET THAT FAKE MAN BOSS BE JUST A JOKE!!! I get it, his name is "Fake" Man. That means he's not the real boss, and just a pre-launch ploy. Heh heh, rIgHt!1!1!1!???

Could be worse. Could have been Rush or Dr. Light himself.

I can't believe people were expecting Bass or something.

JDavis- If I wanted to make the post longer, I could have written "..or maybe Mega Man X's best-friend/worst-enemy Zero, who was created by Dr Wily and therefore may be able to interact with the original Mega Man, but maybe not, as according to the game's official canon
(as dictated by the files in Rockman Perfect Memories the book, not the website), Mega Man is not Mega Man X, and therefore it is unknown if Zero and the original Mega Man ever had the chance to interact...

but...

since there is yet to be a game that officially links the Mega Man and Mega Man X series, and seeing as Zero appears in prototype form in Bass/Forte's ending in Mega Man: the Power Fighers 2, then it is remotely possible that Zero and Mega Man could meet at some point, and that the connection between Mega Man and Mega Man X is deeper than we know."

But that would have sounded nerdy, right? I hate to sound nerdy when I'm typing up some videogame news.

@JDavis: If you ever played Rockman: The Power Fighters 2, then you can see Wily building Zero in Forte's ending.

And I love how critical certain people are of "Fake Man" when half the bosses out of MM9 are carbon copies of other robot masters.

I don't actually have a problem with Fake Man...

He's not an actual boss of Mega Man 9...he's a fun side character for the die hards to beat. that's ok with me since I haven't gotten past the first stage of the demo aka Concrete Man. I suck at Mega Man games....yet I love them so.

I'm fully aware that Zero was built by Wily, and that we see him in Megaman 2: The Power Fighters. It would have been simple to say "or maybe even Zero", thus avoiding both incorrect statements and long-winded nerdiness.

But, whatever.

More on-topic, though, I am looking forward to the stage, regardless of who its boss is.

Hey, is that image a mock-up? If its real, I just noticed that there's no boss bar on the right side of the screen, which may mean that its just the mid boss...

Also, there's a special weapons bar, but Megaman still looks like his normal self...

Curiouser and curiouser...

Too bad, it could've been Bass...I don't want to spoil anything but in the ending there was something that made me think of bass. wink wink =P

Yeah that's just the mid boss! The level end boss is The Man and in order to be him you first have to beat him.

Palidi: No, that's where the boss health bar is in the 8-bit games. It didn't get moved to the right until the X series and 7, and 9 put it back on the left to go with its retro feel.
