Kotaku has ripped the first American PS3 commercial called "The Wait" and posted it for the gaming community to watch rip apart. Like bitter estranged relatives, some gamers are voicing that it will take more than this cameo to overlook the massive damage of last year's awful public relations. The snarkiest have wasted no time:

MC2009 -- "The wait is over" ... but only for 500,000 of you.
Look, its cool and somebody will give them an award for it, but in my eye this is worse than pre-rendered video game teasers. However phenomenal the production value, the video is disposable. Cut out the last 5 seconds and you can use this commercial to promote just about anything -- the weather channel, a new family sedan, community housing, color televisions, a child abuse PSA, whatever. Disposable.
Do you know what we do care about, deeply and truly? Genesis Does. To this day, any gamer who was alive in that era can sing it back to you. Altered Beast, Super Monaco GP, Last Battle, and even Moonwalker destroyed the NES in a 30 montage because it had substance. Show the damn games, pump us with excitement about it, if you dare, make fun of the Wii and Xbox 360. Gamers are competitive. It's obvious -- just give the fanboys better ammo.
So go, Sony. Slap the martini out of your your creative director's hands and bring it. Because in my book, John Connor's rooftop war against the Giant Spaghetti Monster only gets a C+.
