It's hard to imagine that it was 30 years ago yesterday, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross hit the airwaves in Japan. The first series which consisted of 36 episodes would forever change my life, and heavily mold my future anime, manga, and gaming taste. How much has Macross and its US adaptation as part of Robotech effected your life?
From hot new movie reviews to Fall anime roundups, The Network has some ideas on how to spend some of your Super Dimensional money this weekend. I'll be working on some exciting features for next week's Macross Week, over at Japanator, so Protoculture addicts should check back in to get their fix. Join me in wishing the Macross series and the lovely Miss Minmei a happy 30th birthday, and feeling old about the whole thing.
I dunno PrinceHeir. My brother bought a Robotech role playing game, which introduced me to the Ninja Turtles role playing game, which introduced me to the Heroes Unlimited role playing game, which had the best random character creation until City of Heroes came out.
In a roundabout way, my brother picking up that game book led to a lot of fun in highschool, so I'll give Robotech a high five for that.
Holy cow! "KCOP Channel 13, Los Angels" Dun-da-dunnn Da-da-da-dunnnnnn!
It was 1985 I remember coming home from the 4th grade, and there, amongst the other after-school cartoons, was this BEAUTIFUL thing called Robotech. It was the first time seeing a cartoon where there was continuity between each episode with an amazing story, let alone the degree of death and destruction. There was truly something special there.
Thank you, Carl Macek, for pioneering the way for anime. You did what you had to do to get it done and we're all better for it.
Harkens back to my youth like nothing else. The shot of Rick and Lisa (Hikaru and Misa), for example, actually fills me with a sort of joy and longing I cannot quite articulate.
There's "Macross FB7", but it's more like "Flashback 2012" in that it's a series of music videos and clips using existing footage, with only a small amount of new footage.
I was extremely fortunate to watch the original Macross on Youtube's 'TV Channel' section. You didn't have to experience any editing/alternate music that took place in the Robotech version. :)
WHERE ARE THE GAMES? I know, I know. Microsoft has noted that E3 was going to be when it focused on games. But, c'mon, what a perfect video. Anyway, it's a bit hard to take solace in the fact that Microsoft is claiming it'll ...
So, Denis Dyack put together a lengthy video to establish how he's not scamming the people supporting his Kickstarter. What do you think? I'd have an opinion on it myself but I fell asleep after the first three minutes.

I'm no fighting game player. However, I fell in love with the Guilty Gear series long before I gave it a spin because of its sick-ass music. I never knew videogames could rock so hard!
In honor of the recently announced Guil...
Anyone else getting the feeling these Nintendo Directs are getting a little too common? I'm not complaining though. Would have been a slower news day without it. Tune in the coming weeks as we get jacked up on Red Bull and me...
It wasn't the biggest Nintendo Direct event today, but we did get some more info on a few games like New Super Luigi U and Pikmin 3, as well as release dates like Wonderful 101. The event ended up being mostly Wii U-centric, ...
It must be taxing on the soul to be a Wii U fan. On the one hand, Wii U enthusiasts have Super Metroid for next to nothing, and so far they have voted the most when Jim asked which version of Resident Evil Revelations to revi...
MC Frontalot did a Kickstarter last year to raise money to make a music video. He raised so much, he made three. The third of these just hit the intarwebs Monday night, and if you're a Voltron fan, it's quite a good tribute ...
In aggravating news, United States Vice-President Joe Biden recently stated in regards to a "sin tax" on violent media (proposed by Reverend Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham) that there is "no restriction on the ability t...
So, if you haven't heard, Chris Carter plays every videogame in existence to completion. How the hell does he do it? Your guess is as good as mine. However, Chris has finally put together a handy guide, spilling the beans on ...
I am probably the last person on Earth to start watching Arrested Development. I'm about halfway through the first season right now, and it is as funny as everyone says it is. I was inspired to stop putting off watching it by...
