Now, I know what you're thinking. "A first-person Avengers game, really? That can't be good." Sadly, this footage from THQ Studio Australia's canceled game actually looks -- dare I say it? -- great.
Cooperative play, level-based character progression, and effing Super Skrull; I'm just getting depressed thinking that this was canceled and lord only knows what, if anything, gamers will get as a replacement when The Avengers hits theaters next year.
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied: "bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

It makes me sad to see such potential pissed away. This just goes to show you that publishers don't give a damn about the quality of licensed titles. This game could have been amazing, but there's a movie coming out alongside it, so it doesn't have to be.
Its hard to get an FPS to work when flight gets introduced, at least in the few instances where I've seen it. Not saying that's it, but a good game isn't just a few pretty videos and a cool idea...the gameplay would be the true indicator and how all that meshes with the environment and Marvel legacy with 5-6 hulks rampaging through a level...hell I don't know.
I have a hard time believing that if the mechanics were sound that they would have canned the project. More than likely there were some major glitches.
Looks a lot like Grandmaster's Challenge, but not on Rails. Seems really cool and it's a shame it won't see the light of day. I'd have at least played the game.
Damn. This looked like it would have actually been fun. A co-op Avengers FPS where every character played differently. That's so much more ambitious than the usual beat-em-up drivel that we get.
Remember a couple of years back when the 3D Realms dev team was let go, and they released some video from their progress on Duke Nukem Forever and we were all "holy shit wtf that looks awesome" and then Gearbox used those exact same assets in the released version of DNF and it blew chunks?
Yeah, I just don't trust this kind of thing anymore.
Based on Thor's outfit, it looks like it was based on the Ultimates comic. It looked great too! If that was pre-alpha, then imagine what a finished game would have looked like.
A first-person superhero game? Something refreshingly different from all the third-person beat-em-up movie tie-ins? Something that actually looks INTERESTING? Fuck that, we gotta cancel this shit.
Goddamn publishers... Batman will continue to be the only great comic book-based game.
Wow, I'm impressed. It looks fun. A first person game that doesn't involve guns is a must buy for me. Also, I bet that the Movie Tie-in will be 100x more worse than this amazing game. XD
Wow and here I though oh look another game that looked promising and people complain, but then I saw the trailer and hey what do you know, it looks good. It looks like a game that makes you feel like a badass, and that's all that these type of games need to do, so I'm disappointed.
am I the only person who thought some of the xp mechanics and slo-mo floating things looked very Bulletstorm-esque? Not like that's a bad thing, Bulletstorm's demo was insanely fun! And that combined with some superhero awesomeness would rock...
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. It's shit like this gaming industry!
God damn 'dose Iron Man mechanics - it looked so fun.
Innovation? In our games? You're fired.
I have a hard time believing that if the mechanics were sound that they would have canned the project. More than likely there were some major glitches.
That didn't stop Fallout 3 or New Vegas from existing. If anything, they could have cut back on the co-op.
It had nothing to do with the quality. The studio making it ceased to exist. The people making it don't have jobs anymore.
DAMN YOU THQ I WOULD HAVE SO BOUGHT THIS!
Marvel fucked the dog on this one. They need to build their own studio and hire these guys.
I'm a guy.
Yeah, I just don't trust this kind of thing anymore.
Looks nice. Too bad. Probably could've been something great. Then again, looks can be deceiving.
Obligatory: HULK SMASH!!!
must be because it was developed by Australians. they obviously aren't in vogue in todays games industry.
Goddamn publishers... Batman will continue to be the only great comic book-based game.
@OriginalGman
If you had told me that before Arkham Aslyum had been released, I would have pointed and laughed at you. But now.....yeah you're totally right.
Hope this is somehow finished at some point :(
