It's that time again. After the spectacularly well-received Podtoid 95, we promised that once, every ten episodes, we would record a commentary track for a film adaptation of a videogame. This week, we comment on the first Mortal Kombat film, directed by Paul WS Anderson.
We still need questions, I think, but I doubt we'll actually answer more than one or two on the air. After all, we've got a solid hundred minutes of PG-13 sci-fightin' to get through.
Still, you can always hit the jump and ask a question or two on the off chance. I doubt this episode will even half as good as Bisontoid given that the Street Fighter film is basically our own personal Citizen Kane, but it's worth a shot.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
In the not-too-distant future --
Next Monday A.D. --
There was a guy named Rev,
Better known as Anthony.
Adheres to the words of Johnathon Blow,
tells us the indie games we should know.
Has a sister with a boyish face,
but his father didn't like her
and wants to kick her in the azzzzzz (METAL GEAR?)
He'll watch gaming movies,
The "best" he can find (la-la-la).
He'll have to sit and watch them all,
And tell us what's on his mind (la-la-la).
Now keep in mind he can't control
Where the hilarity begins or ends (la-la-la)
This is mostly due in part
the help of his podcast friends.
Podcast Roll Call:
Samit! (Sports)
Linde! (Hi there)
Jim Sterling! (BIAS)
Toooooooopher! (whore mouth)
If you're nitpicking what they speak and think
and other mundane facts (la la la),
Then repeat to yourself, "You're just a troll,
you should really just relax"
For Podtoid Science Theater 3000!
Watch the Othersiders!! That show is great past the past of greatness! not better than Mortal Kombat but still good.
This is gonna be cool. Also watch for Goro's transition from an intelligent (yet aggressive) being when he talks to Kano to some kind of wild animal during fights. All he says from that point onwards is "RAAAAAWR!".
Moooortal Kooommmbat!
KRAKOW!!!
I don't think so.
My money is on 25, with the most being shouted by Samit.
MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!!
*Techno music flares up in the background as the comments section is engulfed in flames and blood*
If you guys were looking for a good movie to MST3K, you should have gone with MK2. THAT movie was horrible in every way. It didn't even have good fights!
I would be cool if podtoid could do commentary for both movies >_>
Who from the Podtoid/Destructoid staff best fits each of the Mortal Kombat film characters?
Also soundtracks for both movies feature amazing techno/trance/industrial music from the 90s.
Question is, upon seeing Goro, would he not wrestle him thinking he was in fact, a mutant bear? If this wrasslin' was to happen, would Zangief stand a chance?
Oh, and will you guys be commenting on Super Mario Bros: MOVIE EDITION next?
As he fell from heaven!
LIKE LIGHTNING!!!
and,
Johnny Cage to Goro: "You've lost your bawlsh!"
Did you guys ever notice that MK, as a franchise, borrowed a LOT of it's themes from movies like Bloodsport. Therein the only purpose for the plot was basically having some convoluted reason on why ice ninja fights lightning god. So in a way it makes MK the perfect video game movie in how it goes back to the exact same format in which the games were based. AKA, story enough only to explain why aggressive blonde female is fighting metalfaced aussie. I love that fact about this movie and wondered if anyone else noticed this as well.
The best part of this movie is that it immediately moves into part 2 (time lapsewise) where johnny cage is immediately killed.
For each podtoid member....what would your personal fatality be if you could have anything.
Alternatively: just do that.
IT HAS BEGUN!!!
In the 2nd movie Scorpion and Sub-Zero fought and I was upset that they didn't finish and i was into the fight, so my question is, if those to were to fight to the death, who would win??
(btw, the answer is Liu Kang/Reptile)
