The moron strikes again: Uwe Boll says games have no story photo

There's a difference between looking like a moron and just being stupid. Uwe Boll has crossed that line with his usual dignity and aplomb many a time, and each time I hope without reason it may be his last. In a recent interview on Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld on Fox News, Boll had the following to offer when asked how he deals with criticism of his films:

"A lot of video games have no story. I did the movie House of the Dead and got bashed and I said, what were you expecting, Schindler's List? I showed zombies chasing people and this is basically what the movie delivers.

"I don't know what they were expecting if you make a movie based on an ego shooter where you kill ninety minutes of people non-stop."

Translation: Stop expecting me to create a watchable project worth your money.

This wails cop-out to me, but expecting Boll to function on the same level as a normal human being possessing working brains is an exercise in futility. He goes on in the interview to trash internet critics, saying "They don't have their own life and they're still sitting at Mommy's table every lunch."

Apparently Uwe is unaware that there is an actual game industry, where journalists go to offices and write about current affairs, just like real reporters. You won't believe this, Uwe -- we get paid too. In fact, a great deal of the time, our lunches are paid for. Tell that to your mom the next time she's whipping you up a tunafish sandwich, because at the rate your films are generating profit you may be moving back in with her soon.

jean claude van damme's monologue before he was gonna, "go up river, and gonna kick, that son of a bitch bison's ass SO HARD!" in street figher the movie, has got to be better than all of uwe boll's attempts in his endeavor for world champion (of being a baby back bitch).

What a way to twist words Colette..."A lot of games" != "games".

Nothing he said is actually wrong, the internet has bred a world of a-holes hiding behind the anonymity it offers. As for the folks at "mommy's kitchen", it might be hard to argue that a solid percentage of "internet critics" on web forums and such are out there living on their own earning a living, but rather still trucking books to class on mommy & daddy's dollar be it middle school, high school, or college.

Greg Gutfeld is the man. Bill Schulz is repulsive. Together, they almost offset the hate speech spewed from the mouth of that empty skirt Martha McCalllum or whatever her name is.

Red Eye is the bastard child of Fox News, the black sheep of the Murdoch offerings. Andrew W.K. makes monthly appearances, as do strippers and bloggers. Thats all that needs to be said really. It's great television.

I was really disappointed to miss the episode with Uwe Boll. Red Eye is the perfect venue for that guy. Assinine comments and other mental debauchery makes the show what it is. I probably would have died laughing if I heard those Boll comments live.

Boll's actual quote is correct, and I think stupid is the last thing I'd call a guy who can manipulate tax loopholes so deftly as to generate healthy profit from box office poison. Full of shit and completely lacking in film-making talent yes, but not stupid. He knows exactly what he's doing.

Maybe I'm alone on this (I think Mxyzptlk might agree somewhat) but I can completely understand where Boll is coming from on this one. I haven't seen any of his movies, but he basically admits that they're shitty (and that's what everyone else says about 'em too) so I'll just go with that. Seems like the real question here is, whose fault is it that Boll is successful? ("Successful" being a relative term.) Seems like if people don't want to watch shitty movies then they won't; so, if he makes a movie and it's shitty then you either shouldn't see it or just appreciate it for what it is. The guy has a job to do, just like any of us, and for most movies he's the producer so if the story sucks it's not entirely his fault... (of course, he could've hired someone to write a better script, I s'pose...)

He said simular things in his Gametrailers interview. To be fair though, he didn't say ALL games don't have a story, and he chooses games like House of the Dead that have very little storyline. Games like BloodRayne have crap stories to begin with.

The quote u put in the article simply said "A lot of games" which is essencially true. While you do have a lot of game w/ excellent indepth stories (bioshock) you have just as many if not more games that while may be super fun (Crackdown) have virtually no story. Even Super Mario World for the Snes, one of the best games ever in my opinion, has a story that can be summed up in less than a line of text.

Im just not sure his comment warrented this kind of a backlash, I mean seriously who gives a crap what this guy says anyways.
