Surely, I see your point, and I believe you are right, some people are just hating because "it's cool to hate".
That is not my case, though: I loved COD4, the campaign was nice and the multiplayer was addictive and fun. But I just couldn't like MW2, the plot was all over the place and the multiplayer was completely chaotic (not in a good way). To me, they tried to add too much stuff and ended up screwing everything up(there are times where "less is more").
The multiplayer turned out to be too much focused on getting killstreaks, instead of actually going for objectives, etc. COD4 had some people who would just camp to get more kills, but at least it wasn't as problematic as it is on MW2.
