It's kinda weird, but this motivated me to want to play MGS4 again. Doesn't speak about the quality of the game so much as the addictive nature of collecting trophies.
I can't believe this game is 4 years old, I remember being so motherfucking hyped. I bought a ps2 that April just to play MGS2 and 3. I never thought kojima would actually patch it. "this is good, isn't it?"
My favorite Metal Gear Trophy is still the "Snake Beater" trophy.
Cool trophies, but I doubt if I'll play through it again. I'll probably replay the last boss fight another five times just for the Snake Eater bit.

I was excited, then I realized these probably won't be retroactive, which sucks because I already did quite a few of these things, some requiring multiple playthroughs (iirc) too. I may still give it a 4th (or 5th, 6th, whatever) play, but I don't think I'll have the motivation to re-do specific stuff just for trophies.

I can't tell, are any of these good/creative trophies, or just the typical "fulfill a certain quota" trophies?
No way I'm rewatching this game again. Now put some trophies into a game like Valkyria Chronicles and I'll give that another go. Ah who needs trophies *pops Valkyria Chronicles into PS3*
I didn't think I could want to play, IMO, by far the worst game in the series any LESS, but somehow, this did it.

Well, its whenever they're going to re-release the game again, which they claimed would be soon after the patch. But frankly, even though its Metal Gear, I don't expect Konami or Sony to go too crazy letting the word out on this. Konami can't even bring themselves to properly market their new games.

Man, I bought the game for the third time last year to finally just have it in my permanent collection because it's such a perfect game, and now they're actually giving me a reason to replay it. First time I played it was before high school started. Really psyched about this, one of my all-time favorites and the source of many feels.
Does this also add in the ability to install the full game so you dont have to do the periodic installs?
@llort het - A mixture of both. Some are story-related, many are collectibles (e.g. camo, iPod songs, emblems, etc.) but there are some fun one (e.g. get kissed by Ocelot and break off the most important piece of the status).

This 2.00 patch also adds the option to install the game and it gets rid of Metal Gear Online.
I thought I'd take one last glimpse of MGO before I'd get the patch. So I pulled the LAN cable out and selected MGO. Which obviously doesn't work without a connection but I still just wanted to watch it. I was greeted by the greatest in-game support I've ever witnessed. If you're like me and love everything about Metal Gear, Kojima and whatnot you should totally do this. I mean, I play through this game at least twice a year but I had never seen this help message thing because I'm always online with my PS3. To think I almost missed it. Oh my...

It's a good thing I haven't touched MGS4 yet (had it for about 3 years now). I only recently got the HD collection, to play MGS3, but I've barely played it...

First of all, you had 4 bloody years to play this game. Secondly, you can decide not to download the patch. Options aplenty. Just like the options you had before you decided to actively whine about something which, as someone who obviously doesn't like this game, you have no interest in anyway.

im definitely gonna replay it one of these days.

Wish they would have given this more love than just a trophy patch. A Vita port and CrossPlay would have been nice, as would a proper Substance/Subsistence update that streamlined the cutscenes and tweaked the gameplay for the better.
Oh well. I guess I'll rebuy it either way, but I wouldn't drop $40 on this like I would with a proper update. It's been 4 years since I played it. Loved it back then, sure I'll love it now with the addition of bragging rights. And after mastering stealth in Deus Ex 3 I was kinda itching to do the same in a Metal Gear game. Preferably one that has *actually* aged well. -_-

I actually really love the trophy list! I love how wacky these are, to me that's kind of the point of trophies, to do things that aren't really conventional in the game.For example I hate story trophies. Getting a "trophy" for something you have to do, like beating a boss just doesn't make sense.
While the cut scenes were longer than I expected them to be, I ended up thoroughly enjoying the shit out of mgs 4, over the top story and all. But I'll wait for a marathon play of the series as well before I get at the trophies.
It would be nice if Konami saw all the hype for the trophy support/full install, and rereleased Metal Gear Online on the PSN store and not on its own servers. And obviously better detection for lag switching and cheating, because that was the only reason I stopped playing MGO. *sigh* But I know it wont happen.

I WATCHED this game once and it was enough for me. Considering it was my first mgs, i'm surprised i finished it.
I'm pleasantly surprised that so many people seem to hold a guarded opinion against MGS4. Contrary to mainstream critic opinion, it was easily the worst in the series (of the 'Solid' games at least), with a plot mostly constructed out of fanwank. Still, this should make a fresh playthrough worthwhile.
@ArrestedDeveloper - You earned the Cool Kids Are Doing It title: seeing your mention of 'Valkyria Chronicles' totally got me back into that game, trophies or not. Great reminder! And @Shippoyasha, much love, too!
