Quantcast

Last night, Turbine and Midway held "launch events" in select cities for their newest fantasy MMO, Lord of the Rings Online. What was expected? A little cosplay maybe? A gaggle of geeks? Something, anything? Sadly, I got none of this in Los Angeles. Instead, all I got was a drunk Armenian, two cosplay girls, a punk chick, and a Jessica Chobot.

As you can see from the glorious photos, this event was quite the disappointment. At least Chobot was there to keep me company. Thanks Jessica!

Wow...epic? Poor guys, they thought people cared about their game. First they were expecting a million people to sign up for the beta, now this...

Chobot HAPPENED to be there? Right Summa, you're either a stalker or I need to start a gaming-news-gossip blog.

Despite LoTR having good name recognition and being an excellent IP, I seriously doubt the sanity of anyone who goes head to head with WOW. If people want to make an MMO they are going to need to offer something different, Blizzard has done pretty much everything right.

I'm not a stalker, I swear.

I was actually really glad she ended up being there. Otherwise, I would have been very lonely. :(

Wow. That EB is huge. The one by me is located in a custodial supply closet by the public restrooms.

Anyone end up going to the new york event? i would have gone, but i had a feeling noone was going to show. They had to beg people to be in there beta. Its just another wow clone.

If destructoid needs someone to report gaming events in new york, let me know.

Yeah, this was the biggest Gamestop/EB I've ever seen. This LA one was held at the tourist trap Universal Studios.

I'd laugh, but it's so sad. Is there even a word for an event so nerdy not even the nerds show up? Cool?

We tried that, Sharpless, but the Chief couldn't perform, if you know what I mean.

Ouch. I attended the first public midnight screening of Fellowship of the Ring in NYC, and I'd never seen so many fake wizards, elves and orcs in my life. These people's costumes may not fit nearly six years later.

That City Walk EB is such an eye sore for giant over the top props.

*Note: Wash your hands after handling a display game controller, because children touch everything.

Is that Master Chief an advertising...thingy (I forgot the proper name, forgive me) or is it a permanent piece of the decor?

At least you got to meet an actual statue of Spider-Man. And Chobot probably got to lick game accessories to her heart's content.

Another reason Blizzard wins the mmo world, they allow the mac people to play (also a reason the win at the RTS for me). CHEER FOR BLIZZARD, FOOLS. The time of LOTR has passed forever!
