This trailer for a independant film called The Legend of Zelda: Hero of Time found its way into my inbox recently.  The full length feature film was created by BMB Finishes, directed by Joel Musch, and stars David Blaine -- not David Blaine the magician, David Blaine the college student -- as Link.

The film follows the general storyline from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with a few add-ons and has been in production for over 3 years now.

Created completely from the group's own money, they plan to distrubute the film when its complete, but probably on a video only market. The film is not associated with or endorsed by Nintendo.

For more information on th film, check out the official website, Legends and Adventures: A Zelda Fan Site

Least it looks better than the Eragon movie.

They just had to rock the Lux Aterna by Clint Mansell at the end, didn't they.

Oh my science that was awesome.

"Let's make our movie as epic as the LOTR trilogy. I mean, hey, we have close to no budget! What could possibly go wrong?"

Seriously. Low budget movies can be good (blair witch), but you need a plot that doesn't require elaborate make-up, costumes, heavy action, special effects or anything that will end up looking half-assed unless you throw lots of cash into it. Also, bad lighting in outdoor scenes are a dead giveaway for amateurism.

Oh, and Link kissing Zelda...

C'mon, since when Zelda has this whole epic LotR feeling?

Zelda stories are supposed to be about this lone boy (not young adult, like seen in this crappy trailer) that is cursed by his own destiny - save a whole world by himself.

And the biggest mistake: where is Zelda's classic theme?

Dang dudes, I think you need to give them credit. That was way more impressive than I was hoping for. What are the chances they'll actually get to release it without being sued though?

Blair Witch had about a $125,000 budget, which is tiny for a film but I'm assuming these guys have quite a bit less.

Hope it turns out well for them.

Blair witch sucked. But your right in saying low-budget films must solely be character driven films or something that doesnt require costumes, elaborate settings, or special effects...at all. Seriously, this movie sucks and they're aholes for trying to actually distribute it beyond their film school.

Dear Indie film makers and fan trailer editors:

Please stop using that Clint Mansell/Kronos Quartet track from Requiem for a Dream. It's a great epic song, we get it. About 19,000 other people already had the same idea as you to rip it off. Just stop already damn it.

Other than that, despite looking a little hokey I was fairly impressed with what they'd done on a limited budget. I'd never want to see the finished project, but it wasn't bad in trailer form.

the cinematography was actually not that bad looking considering. some of the shots looked ok, not amazing, but that is something indie directors don't always have down.

Also, I'm glad no one referred to the song as being a LOTR song, because it was on that one commercial for it.

Was that Tara Reid at the end there? All that plastic surgery finally landed her a role in an indie film?

seeing as how they hacked the music from Cirque Du Soleil's KA I don't see how this can be real
