The least good idea for a port ever: Final Fantasy VII goes 8-Bit

The least good idea for a port ever: Final Fantasy VII goes 8-Bit photo
     Final Fantasy

Weird gaming crap enthusiasts GameSnipe recently scored themselves a real, honest to goodness copy of Final Fantasy VII for the Famicom.  Much like the recently talked about 8-Bit version of Street Fighter 4, 8-Bit FF VII was made by some of those evil pirates we all hear so much about.  Also like 8-bit SF4 (and all other game design atrocities), I both loathe and desperately desire FF VII in it's 8-Bit format. Sure it's awful, but it's rare, and that makes me want it.

Hit the link above for more on the game, or just click here to watch the part you most likely want to see. Warning! Big, scary spoilers for all four of you that don't know the most famous part of FF VII's story.

Hahaha. I dunno, seems like it could be a good idea if done properly. Though, I'd rather a 16-bit snes version of the game, ftw.

Unless of course, you're of the opinion that all FFVII had going for it (relative to other FF's) was the transition to 3D. I wouldn't argue to hard against that.

I'd love to play a 16-bit FF VII port. But 8-bit?

Well, like I said, I'd buy it if I could. But that doesn't mean I'd actually play it.

16 bit or bust!

Actually, 8 would be cool as long as it was convenient, unlike FF1's "you're attacking an enemy that died previously so your attack is wasted" stuff.

Well it's in Chinese, and we're well aware they have nothing but Famicoms in China, so what're you gonna do?

I think it's pretty cool for what's essentially just a rom hack.

16-bit for the win. 8-bit for massive fail.

this was a self made rom from way back when... as un-cocky as i can sound...when i first got into the rom scene which was about 8 years ago or more.. this was in exsistance. there are a lot of these out there.. mostly for the nes cause of its ease i guess over say the snes generation...not too many of those.. i'm pretty sure there was also a self made FF10 if im not mistaken..

also, i look at these more as creative then pirated or hacked.

You people realize this is not a fan game but a Chinese produced hack, right? Famiclones's are all over China still.

No one really wants a fricking 8 bit version! Stop working backwards work forwards to making a HD current gen version or better yet one two generation ahead... with VR

Is it sad that I laughed at that "really big scene" you linked to? And that I think it looks more charming than the original FFVII did?

@Colette: It's okay, I think RFGO and the fans will forgive you, but I still disagree.

Well, the basic gameplay probably wouldn't suffer at all (if it still uses the same combat system) but, as you can tell from the clip, some of the drama is most certainly lost.

However chances are if you're going to play the 8-bit version of FFVII then you've probably only doing it for the novelty factor.

I'd probably play it for a laugh

ehhh, looks lame...
i'd rather have a 16 bit remake that isnt made from used sprites of other FF's or have a uber shweet ps3 remake.

even then i wouldnt buy it.

I think a 16-bit FFVII could be great and would certainly make more sense; FFVI was on SNES after all. Oh, 2D RPGSs, how I miss thee. Interesting find.

The 16-bit would be good if Square made for Gba. Doubt it will happen though.
