Damn... I didn't even know they really kept the RvB series going. After watching that, I may have to get back into the series.
Time for me to start watching Red Vs. Blue! I wasn't a huge fan of the first few series, but I'm really getting pulled in this time.
RvB the last couple of seasons has gone down hill in my opinion.
I miss the "good ole days" of them sitting around Blood Gulch just talking. The new action oriented big script movie type seasons have been pretty poorly done as far as plot and story to me. Kind of like changing from a Kevin Smith screenplay to a Michael Bay craptastic movie. The addition of the new non game engine stuff is a weak attempt at making the show interesting again.

Ugh! I think I'm going to have to avoid all Halo related material until Reach comes out. I haven't been this excited for a game in a long time so the wait may kill me.

It's garbage. They're cheating. Breaking the Machinima rules. Series is done. I might place a ban on Red vs Blue video content on Dtoid from now on. =p
The series fell out of my radar after they made the jumped to Halo 2. Didn't know they were still making these, huh.
Oh yeah, and the pistol nod was pretty cool too. Pretty funny.
But yeah, can't say I'm a fan of the whole non-machinima thing. I mean, it looked really good, but if you can do that, why not just do that for the whole series? Kinda defeats the point and some of the intrigue of having a machinima.

RVB was comedy.
It had some side stories in the same universe that were action.
Now it has made those stories connect together to pull off and action comedy series. If you watch them all from the beginning to know you would probably appreciate it more. However, it depends on your taste. I'm enjoying as it is, I got bored quickly when it was just one of either but the combination as please me now.

I never found rooster teeth funny. I much preferred the works of Jon CJG and darkspire. But that action scene caugh me off gaurd. It was pretty well done.
That was cheating. Not only that it wasn't funny like the others. Far too serious.

Personally, I like the additions Monty adds to the series as long as its done in small bursts like in this video. RvB has always been a comedy with some action in it to me. I don't want it turning into an action with some comedy. Since the series seems to be going in a more serious direction story wise, I think the additional movements that Monty Oum adds to the characters help out quite a bit. The only thing too over-the-top in the video that could have been left out was Sarge grabbing the shotgun while Washington is in midair. Of course over-the-top is Oum's signature
Every comedian eventually wants to try his hand at the dramatic. Actually, comedy itself is just the dramatic looked at from a different point of view, so typically, comedians do a really good job of portraying the dramatic. Look at Robin Williams in One Hour Photo and Jim Carrey in Truman Show, they bring an extra level of intensity to their dramatic. Rooster Teeth, having done comedy for so long, have probably also craved that other side too. I mean, let's face it, if it weren't for the comedic aspects, most of RvB's stories, no matter how absurd, have typically been very much filled with drama.

Damn, that sequence was cool. However, it wasn't funny, like, at all. Halo 2 was still funny, at least the few episodes that I saw, but I haven't seen much of Halo 3 at all, and now I don't think that I will.
Hah I miss this. It's too troublesome keeping up with it in any form that isn't entire seasons reduced to single video files.
I agree with most of you, it's hard to mix comedy and drama. I mean, just think about a truck full of clowns falling down a ravine.

That whole sequence with the fight on the warthog was actually fully animated as opposed to the more stiff and limited Machinima. It looks WAY more awesome and is harder to create than what you get when you just use in-game mechanics

Hahha, I love how people are saying that RT adding a sequence that alone would take longer to do than a normal episode is 'cheating.'

Although RedvsBlue was meant to be machinima, there is no rule that it can't expand beyond that. For instanse, just because a game is supposed to be a first person shooter, does that mean it can only have fps mechanics and no rpg or other genre qualities? Few games nowadays are solely fps, rpg, or whatever, but are mixtures. The same can be applied to machinima. If you said that you simply didn't like RedvsBlue because it isn't funny or entertaining, then that's perfectly acceptable. But to say that this is garbage because this is cheating, while you are taking care of a website you don't even own and that uses other people's videos while providing pretty much nothing, is absurd. Adapt to change, allow mixtures between two art styles, and stop being uptight about what you think is machinima (kind of like roger ebert determining what is art). Your comment sounds like something an art game snob would queef out.

I'm still enjoying what they're doing at Rooster Teeth. They're still funny (esp. with some of their other shorts), but they've branched out too. I'm always waiting in anticipation to see what they bring out next!

I'm with you, Hamza. I didn't think they'd ever get away from straight machinima, at least for the RvB series. They did show that cartoon at PAX '08, but nothing ever came of that.
