It should be no secret by now that I've got a massive bonk-on for Mistwalker's The Last Story. Not only is it being developed by one of the few Japanese RPG developers to not become crap, it also looks really damn good for a Wii title, has a solid art direction, and an interesting combat style. What could go wrong?
Well, plenty could go wrong, as I've seen enough good ideas go sour before. However, everything could go right, and I really hope it does. Mistwalker's Lost Odyssey was the last console RPG I truly fell in love with, and I hope The Last Story can become the next. We'll have to wait and see.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
SO EXCITE FOR THIS
All I can say is any RPG fan without a Wii is really missing out. Arc Rise, this, Xenoblade, Tales of Graces (granted, we may never see that in the west), and DQX looms over them all.
I'm already busy with P3P and DQIX, but then there's Arc Rise Fantasia for Wii, VC2, KH:BBS and Phantasy Star Portable 2 all a week apart from each other soon. Then Etrian Odyssey III and FF: 4 Warriors of Light not too long after.
Then the deluge of Wii games in the fall. I was going to save for a PS3, but I don't see how I can now.
or BONK
I can't wait to hear more on this beaut and see it get dated for a North American release. Make it happen, Nintendo. Don't screw us like you did with Disaster: Day of Crisis and ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat.
Demon's Souls and Lost Odyssey are also my favorite JRPGs of this generation. Is Nier really worth playing?
I hope they don't kill the localization on this the way I heard Arc Rise Fantasia was butchered too...
Yes, Nier is a gem of a game. I was also skeptical, but some folks on GAF sold me on it. While the graphics aren't anything special, Nier has a story, cast of characters, soundtrack, a large number of bosses, and more, that make it one of the most heartfelt and impressive Action/RPGs I've played.
I'm hoping this is on a dual-layer disc. The only game that actually used all that space on the Wii was Smash Bros., and I swear that had 360-level graphical detail. All developers should be doing that now.
