The sad part is, that doesn't make this writeup unnecessary.
I did not hear this weeks podcast, why? Because you were not in it. I'm, you are honest, funny and fat. Don't let loser virgin nerds keep you down.
Heavy Rain, Final Fantasy 13 and Assassins Creed all suck, but that is only my opinion.
This is mostly about reviews, anyway. I write loads of joke articles for sure, but the reviews are what I take cereal."
I've said this before, but I really think it works a lot better to keep your content separate. Have a crew of reviewers, a crew of news guys, and a satirist/humorist or two. It's obvious when you're being serious or not but people are dumb.
I know that Destructoid runs with a ragtag crew, but I think it would help a lot to keep your church and state separate.
For those saying that there should be multiple reviewers for games, do you wish to buy the reviewers copies of their games? As well as pay them for the article?
You admit it yourself Jim. You do a lot of joke articles. Why do you expect people to take you seriously and respect you then. It doesn't work like that. Grow up and stop making these followup articles if you want one ounce of credibility.
Fancy a BJ?
I don't post often, as I usually just try to respect other people's opinions, but still sometimes you look like you are mocking games and their fans just for shits and giggles.
Don't forget tough, for each hater you get, there is another one that loves your work. We just don't speak that much when everything is right. Just when we have something against it. Peace.
(PS:Sorry if its a bit confusing, im not a native english speak).
That being said and speaking from an educated point on his material and his writing when reviewing a game I still am hard pressed to believe, from other games that have gotten a higher score, that Jim can argue that Final Fantasy is in fact worse than games he has given up to a seven.
It is my opinion that when compared to Heavy rain, ex razor up and still press up, that Final Fantasy XIII is a much better experience. Still poo yes for many of the reasons that Jim explains, but much better. In fact a felt Jim's Heavy Rain review to be a whole lot more harsh than this one.
My other comment was that it was a simple mistake to make, while Jim was being honest, to admit that part of his pay comes from the amount of comments generated. It adds doubt.
That being said there is no hate here and Jim is still my number one source to go to for game reviews and game entertainment.
I don't forget that at all. I know I can overstep the line (and your husband is very good at putting me in my place) but I only want Dtoid to be good, and I work seven days a week to contribute to that. I'm actually pretty damn stung that you would say that to me. You have no idea how often I'm asking Niero if I'm doing everything okay and making sure I am serving Destructoid to the best of my ability.
I'm sorry that your opinion of me has become so low.
He's not refuting criticism, he talking about abuse. ex. F U - your fat - go kill yourself. these are not criticisms, this is abuse.
grrlaction if I called you a douche, would you take that as constructive criticism and and go and shower, or would you consider that trash talking?
I cant argue with your review and scores, but your tone just drips with venom and childish remarks that seem to be made just to enrage gamers.
I LOVE your videos and satire articles, but a reviews should be done more professionally.
Peace
Exdeath's the best.
Anyway, of course you're going to generate a lot of negative feedback when you're articles and reviews are often quite antagonistic. DinosaurPizza nailed it - by the way, he linked to your 'Fans should shut up' article, not a Blatantly Better piece.
Don't wear troll pants and people will stop thinking you're a troll. You could have reviewed Final Fantasy without all of the venom."
runtheplacered said it best. It's not what you say that makes you so detested and controversial, Jim (okay, that's part of it), it's really how you say it that makes you come off like a complete flamebaiting troll.
I've read and (embarrassingly) been angered by your reviews. I have thought from time to time that you're just a fucking troll looking for hits. I've been a dick, I've been a child, and I've been a moron about your opinion.
But I'll tell you what, if one person comes out and says, "Hey, I get where you're coming from, I respect that a shit ton actually," you've done a good thing with this editorial. And guess what, I'm that guy.
I think you make your own bed sometimes - meaning you could probably say things with a little more sugar on top to make it taste better. But hey, this is you and you shouldn't apologize for being you. I respect that, I actually admire that.
In the future I'm not going to be that guy that tells haters to go fuck themselves in an attempt to stand tall and defend my favorite video game website (and DT is my favorite video game website) but I will read every word and understand that what you see is what you get. You may not get the sugar, you may not be happy about Jim's opinion, but you can damn well be sure that Jim Sterling calls it like he sees it and that's all we can ask for in a reviewer.
There are too many gaming websites out there right now that are concerned about contacts and business relationships with developers and distributors, they make concessions to keep these things intact. With that said, I know your intention is to be honest and when you're honest at the cost of these relationships there is a word for that, integrity.
Thanks for the write up, bud. Without sounding like a sentimental idiot (actually, fuck it, why not?), I feel like I got to know you a shit ton better with this article.
Bravo.
Thanks.
The scale allows Jim to justifiably give out 4s in an industry where other sites would give a below average game a 6. Sitting at the bottom of Metacritic equals pageviews as oppose to getting lost in the 6-8 area.
If Destructoid followed the rest of the industry's grading scale they wouldn't get a quarter of the pageviews theyre getting.
It's smart but I do hate Jim always going back and pointing to "DESTRUCTOIDS GUIDELINES" to justify the score.
Personally, I think Jim's tone diversifies the site. In a welcome way.
Even when a majority of people agree with what the review says some idiots will go complain on other sites that Dtoid is biased because they know no one will call them out on it there.
If you think something's below average give it a 4 and be proud of it. Although you should work on trying to word it a bit better than wanking jokes.
@Shinta
Seriously dude you spammed the FF XIII and now you're still hating on him. If you don't like it here just leave.
You don't have to post here at all.
True story.
It's like AC2. I liked it, you didn't. Hence we disagree. Fine by me. You hated FFXIII, so did I so we were in agreement. Yet some people out there make it their own personal mission to be complete assholes because they can't simply except he has a completely different opinion and you might not like the way he wrote it. Tough shit I say.
If you don't like it then go write your own review instead of wasting time complaining about someone elses.
Actually is there any chance of just removing the score at the end? Would probably remove "some" of the more butthurt comments that feel like comparing every score of every game.
The videogame business is a very harsh business to be in indeed.
Fight the powa' Jim!
