"You give scores related of what you personally think about them."
*Gasp*
How shocking!
I'm still waiting for PunisherLH and pl0x kthanxbai to see this and respond accordingly.
Thank you for trying to save the Dtoid community from its reviews, but NO FUCKING THANKS. Fuck right back off to Game Spot, chaps.
Also, yes, to "bias" is a noun. If you're gonna bitch about Jim's reviews, at least use the right form of the (wrong) word.
And I agree about that mention of N4G... good god... though no one can beat YouTube's discussion community in intelligence.
@ Jim - Next video, just for the hell of it, can you give us a good, hearty "IF YOU WANT SOME, YOU KNOW WHERE TO FIND ME! I DON'T LAY DOWN FOR NOBODY! COME GET SOME YEEEEEEEEEEAH!"
BECAUSE YOU FUCKING OWNED YOU FUCKERS.
I don't see why not, even a corrupt site like YouTube can put in a delete option.
Don't shit on Americans man. You make it sound like trolling is an American disease. Whether some dumbass knows the definition of bias or not has no impact on their enjoyment of video games. It has more to do with people wanting their own opinions to be validated and less about how much they payed attention in English class.
Every review should be done WITHOUT BIAS.
Bias means: a particular tendency or inclination, esp. one that prevents unprejudiced consideration of a question; prejudice.
Having an opinion and having bias are two completely different things.
For example: If the developer of a game shot your mother in the face, naturally, you will be biased against that game, and will likely be unable to write a review that has any value, because of your personal biases.
However, if you don't like some feature in the game, such as a control scheme, which others may like, that is your opinion, and has every right to be a part of a good review. I am reading a review to be told what you think of the game. "I personally don't like his control scheme, however others may" is a perfectly reasonable phrase.
Conclusion: Bias bad. Opinion good.

why you may ask?
i love this site and the peoples in it because this site has a huge amount of personality which i believe some sites lack. as for your reviws, sure it might irritate me, only slightly, but i always know that you review game fairly and justly and for those who thinks that Jim cant right a review, i issue this challenge.
Challenge: become a videogame reviewer
for this you would need to buy ALL the lastest games, give YOUR review (not someone elses opinion) and see how far you get before you to are accused of "bias". speaking of which, OF COURSE THERE IS BIAS IN REVIEWS, IN ANY REVIEW. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE AS A HUMAN BEING TO NOT HAVE A BIT OF AN OPINION IN ANYTHING.
PizzaReaver, out
You kind of remind me of Blunty 3000.. It's a mix of the accents & outrage.
Therefore, you should lose your job then kill yourself
We ALL have biases. They're part of who we are and you can't scrub that out. Note that your handy dictionary definition (which I already read before recording the video) uses the word "especially" and not "exclusively". If it were the latter you'd have a point, but the use of the former suggests that you can have bias and still use clear judgment.
For the last year destructoid became, almost without me noticing it, my favorite gameinfo site, thats because of the originality and subjectiviness of all you guys.
I may disagree with Jim a lot, but I always respect his almost aways well put arguments.
Good work
PS. Stop taking sides on the so called console-war, it just trows gasoline at it.
The constant news updates
The good Rev Anthony Burch
and Jim Sterling.
And now Burch is gone (I really fucking miss that guy, its just not the same without him) your pretty much the only reviewer left that i value. If you where not doing reviews for this site...well id still come for the constant news updates but destructoid would be a lesser place without you. Even though lets face it, your like a bull in a fucking china shop.
Something along those lines, and now I understand about what goes in the minds of people when they review games. ALL reviewers will be 'bias'ed, but it's their personal opinion at the end of the day, NOT OURS unless we decide to review it ourselves. Trolling about it without a valid reason won't get you very far in life however... at all. Great vid!
This can even go past that! If you agree with Jim on what he write you are wrong. that is to say you do not know or understand his biasses so you could not understand why he likes or dislikes this and for what reason. With the removal of fact its hard to convey any valuable opinion.(yes i know it can be done but it is HARD)
Again Jim i ask is it possible to have a review use more objective guidelines then your style of a more subjective feel? Would a more Objective review have any value? (not more or less just any value)
The same goes for you Jim. Keep this up. This is turning into an awesome series.
I may not agree with you on all points but god you nailed it in your "fanboymentalism" article. I suspect that is where so much of this is rooted. Should be added to the dictionary.
I wonder what the Pope would think of Singularity?
And yet you never provide examples to back up your claims, you just spout venomous crap without rationale.
It's a shame that commenters can't be held as accountable as reviewers. They get to claim any old bullshit.
Good on ya Jim. Keep up your "biased" and "opinionated" reviews =)
Okay, Jim. Fine. You're just an extremely unique reviewer.
If I were to review games, I wouldn't base things off of my opinion. I hate sports games for example but that doesn't mean all sports games are bad. I don't have fun playing them but I'd give it a fair review for the people who enjoy sports games and show all of the positive and negative points that would be important to the sports fans looking to purchase the game. I'm not saying you avoid that entirely but I think that's what people refer to when they say "bias".
But yes. I don't know why people get offended when a game they like is reviewed poorly. I mean, it's not like a reviewer's opinion is actually IMPORTANT. (No offense Jim). What I mean to say is that it's not like a bad review score detracts from the experience of playing a game. If I enjoy a game, and you bash it, it's the same game for me. It's just a man's opinion for godsake!
Here's what you don't seem to understand about reviews. It's not just about what you, Jim Sterling, personally think about a game. After all, why should I care what you, or anyone else, thinks about a game? Your personal preferences are likely to be different than mine, so merely hearing your opinion on a game is practically worthless to me.
The purpose of a review is not to get someone's opinion of a game. It is to help people decide whether or not they should purchase the game in question. That means a reviewer must step out of their own little opinionated views and judge a game with some objectivity.
Is the story good? Are the graphics acceptable? Is gameplay fun? How is the voice-acting? If a game is a sequel, how does it improve on its predecessor? How does the game compare to other games in its genre? Is it worth the asking price? These are the questions that a good reviewer tries to answer.
That's not to say that a good game reviewer should check his own opinions at the door, merely that he needs to employ some empathy and keep his own opinions in check.
In order to illustrate my point, let's pretend I was asked to do a review of the latest Madden game. Personally, I dislike sports games and derive little enjoyment from playing them. If I reviewed the game in the same way you review games, I would probably give the game a 2/10, since I don't even like American football to being with. Would such a review help prospective buyers of Madden games come to a decision? Of course not. My review would do little to help people decide whether or not to buy the game.
What prospective buyers of this newest Madden game would want from a review is to know how this latest iteration improved upon the previous games. What new features are there? How has gameplay changed? Were the changes good or bad? Is it worth shelling out another $60, or should I just keep playing last year's Madden?
I hope you begin to see my point and understand why your reviews are not very helpful. If you want to give your personal opinion on a game, that's fine, but that's not what a designated reviewer on a decent video game site is supposed to do. Instead, you're supposed to help us decide whether or not we, the readers, will like a game. Get it? It's not about you. It's about us.
Of course, if you do want to give out your opinion on a game, or anything else, there are plenty of places to do that, such as YouTube or a personal blog. However, an official review on a major gaming site like Destructoid is not the appropriate place for that.
