Actually, not at all. To me games are a pure hobby, I do it for fun, if I don't like something I don't play it and what I do like I can play to a pace that suits me instead of a deadline.
Games aren't about work for me, I don't even associate the two and for that I'm thankful.
It just amused me that you seemed more worried about your own personal position than the issue at large, but I'm going to assume that was largely part of your on screen character. But hey you know what they say "many a true word said in jest"
Seriously how would you cope with a real job? Your not built for labouring, your persona doesn't suit the service sector, you don't claim to be a journalist in the traditional sense of the word. What Sterling's back up plan?
You got some real problems with some guy on the internet you don't even know, good luck with that. Keep grinding that axe, will be nice and sharp in no time flat.
oh the topic at hand its very scary how much power one can wield with money. Its very scary that the internet the best thing made by man ever can be turned over so easy by just a few votes.

Are you kidding? I like Jim, he's pretty much the only reason I come to this site and 9 times out of 10 I'm probably going to agree with him.
What I did was google "SOPA ACT" which brought me to wikipedia which informed me that it is known as H.R. 3261, googling H.R. 3261 brought me to here
Don't be lazy, it took me less than 2 minutes to find that. Or should I just copy and paste all the text here for you too?
The focal point of Jim's rant was how the bill would affect his job because the strongest arguments are ones that come from personal experience. Jim is using how the bill would directly affect his career to illustrate why it is bad. This doesn't mean Jim is ignorant of the issue at large. It just means the SOPA bill is a bit more personal for him than for some other people. And whether or not you respect Jim's job has nothing to do with how valid his grievances are. You act as though people who write about games on the Internet for a living should not complain about SOPA because they have stupid jobs (according to you).
I request that you please grow the fuck up.
I hope these fools won't win this time.
I hope these fools won't win this time.
I hope these fools won't win this time.
But in all seriousness,I`m waging the last bit of faith I have in humanity on this bill not passing, and if it does pass it will slowly kill these companies that are supporting this bill as a big helping of douche karma.
Oh,and piracy will continued unscathed, hell, maybe even worsen when people start pirating just to spite these companies.
Fuck SOPA (not soup, just the bill...I like soup)
But like in the video, you can't do Let's Plays or charity videos anymore (without getting feloned). What the fuck?
I see no good at all at this bill, is Jack Thompson striking back?
SOPA actually means soup in spanish... well.. yeah, that was lame
SOPA can rot in hell, and the corrupt folk who want to take everything from us.
@thomas1980 he clearly says this affects entire websites like The Escapist and Destructoid.
In the last year I have rid my life entirely of network tv and just watch stuff on the interweb, mostly DIY stuff like TGWTG and the streams on twitch.tv. All this goes away if the bill goes through and my life becomes a little bit sad.
Hope to God this doesn't pass.
"Funny because these politicians were elected to vote in our interests. This just proves that we have no voice, there is nothing we can do, and the big corporations run the show."
That was proven long before SOPA. Hence Occupy Wallstreet's existence.
The way I am coping with my real job right now -- being pretty damn good at it.
My having to alter the way I work or losing my job altogether is a very small point -- obviously a very important one to me and one I wanted to lead off with, but still relatively small fish. I simply wanted to show one of the very real affects this could have. Speaking out against the bill isn't speaking out FOR me, as Phoenix Gamma and thomasnumbers seem to think I believe. I don't give a fucking shit what your reasons for speaking out against SOPA are -- I just care that you care enough about the Internet to do it.
It would herald the beginning of a slippery slope which trends toward Orwellian dystopia. Don't be a corporate flunkie and be like Jim (and any other sane Net/Game/Freedom enthusiast): say a hearty fuck-you to Sony, EA, Nintendo, Microsoft, Apple and most of all, SOPA!!

So let's just say the Video Game Industry actually supports this bill. That would be the biggest punch in the face by the entire industry to gamers itself.
Why would you guys want Anonymous to attack? That's crazy. All that would do is give fuel and ammo to the folks trying to get this thing to pass.

And even if Obama vows to veto it, if this gets 2/3rd the votes, his veto may not matter.
We cannot allow this.
Thankfully government has denied things like this before by realizing that it's way too vague, but like you said it's only a matter of time before something that gives way too much power to the corporations gets through. Thank you Jim for taking a public stand on this. <3
