The Conservative party in our country is already pushing a copyright bill that's far worse then any introduced or passed in the US and since they have majority, it'll probably pass.
So expect a bill like this to show up in Canada, be worse then this, and pass with little resistance.

I wonder about the wording of it. I always thought this was about anti-piracy but, if the law is written as badly as some of the laws currently are (i.e. elastic clause), than no go.
Actually, it is probably just people abusing the elastic clause. Still, not sure if an anti-piracy IP blocking thing would ever function because corporationsa are the modern day kings who want to conquer more and more of peoples things.

At best you will get a bunch of companies promising that they would never abuse such blanket authority *pinky swear*. I'd give that less than a month before they go total ape shit shutting everything under the sun down. If they really really pace themselves about three months.
The other thing is how many dissidents will crap legislation like this create? People only obey laws as long as they either respect or fear them. This would elicit no respect so they sure as shit better be shooting for fear..... and you don't win loyalty through oppression, quite the opposite.

SOPA is Draconian written law. It's vague to the point where even the people who wrote it wouldn't be able to properly explain it to us. To see that Publishers supporting this is disheartening since I guess they don't give two shits about streams sites such as Twitch.tv that actually helping in sales (that actually depends on both caster and viewers perception of the game played).

How come you don't give any mention to Microsoft and Apple? They are for this too. They are part of the Business Software Alliance. A lobbyist group who is pushing for this bill. I tweeted you about this on Saturday, and even without out that it would have taken only a google search to see where MS and Apple stand. This makes me lose a lot of respect for you Jim. I'm not trying to defend Sony, or Nintendo. Both should be put in the spotlight for their support of this bill. But not to call out MS and Apple...well it just feels bias. As much as I hate the word and how people throw it around here. I was hoping for better.

The internet will be regulamented sooner or later, no matter what. People defend the non-regulamentation because of freedom, but freedom without rules is just anarchy.

Publishers don't care about gamers, they never have. All they're interested in is the money, and that's what SOPA is all about. they want to take away everything thats good about the internet, and go back in time 30 years, where you had no idea if what you were buying is any good. This would also eliminate the current trend of good games selling well and bad games bombing.
Everyone should stop EVERYTHING they're doing, including being employed if that's an obstacle, and listen to this NOW.
The only good thing about this bill is seeing Jim shitting himself that he might have to get a real job and do some real work, and pay for all his games.
I am very glad that Jim addressed this issue. This may be a proposed US law but it will have a worldwide affect. Sites will be taken down for everyone, not just the US. Don't bother waiting around for your country to pass a similar law because you will see the affects as the US government will change YOUR Internet. Sure, you won't be affected as much, but the US government will be passing a law that hurts the world.

Contact your local government and let them know that you want your country standing up against Hollywood, Big Business Bullies, and the US government for trying to pass a law that affects those who are not citizens of the US. Help make this a world issue and stand up for your rights to not have your Internet censored by a country that you don't even live in.

God episode Jim, and I whole heartily applaud you on this. I've tried telling a few people about it, and either they don't get it or just don't care. It goes far beyond games though. This will also force ISPs into monitoring every customers behavior on the internet (think of it as wiretapping your internet usage), and give power to corporations and groups like the RIAA to potentially bring up felony charges to people for posting snippets of song lyrics on facebook, or having music playing in the background on homevideos they post online. Granted, that is a worst case scenario, but it does give them the power to do it. And honestly, I would not hold it against the RIAA after what they've pulled in the past.
Awesome rant Jim, SOPA is a horrible idea with really no bounds! Hopefully if the internet becomes regulated it will do so with rules that don't destroy it.
