Seriously though, I believe games should and could have the options to turn on and off male and female clothing options. It shouldn't be that hard. Otherwise, give us more good looking man bits with the good looking female bits. That's fair.
So I don't accept that argument that objectifying men would make the objectification of women less harmful, because there is no way to make the effect it has on our perception of people, as a whole, equal. It's just not that simple, men have much less to fear from being objectified than women do.
Additionally, along with more objectification not being able to even the playing field, an even playing field supported by constant objectification is not solving the problem. It's nice that you're considering that there might be some problem going on with sexism in games, Jim, but I really do think you need to look a bit deeper.
I can dig that concept. Shame it can be so subjective at times. Another lovely Jimquistion. Would adore some Cho Aniki level of equality in my video games.
Oh and yeah, Jim. I think a lot of Dante yaoi is made by men -_-
Their was charm to the old opening, and the way you shot videos. I use to be able to clearly see the reflection of the Camera in your aviators, and I liked that. Their was something organic and raw about the way you use to just shot a video in front of a blank wall, and just rant. It was kinda like no Bull Sh*t, just words. The new opening is nice and all, but I'd much rather see you blow Sonic and cackle like a mad man.
When you weren't trying for production values I never payed attention to that stuff, but now that you were trying I'm starting to notice things. The red background was distracting, and my eyes keep wandering around noticing the wrinkles, and the tripod you used to shot looks crooked. Overall it's not a big deal I'm just giving some constructive criticism.
Now as for women that are as you may point out are clearly just sexual objects and outlets for violence. I might say that sex and violence are actually closely related in the mind.
I guess you original point as to why developers can't cater more women and sexualise men is that men seem to be more appropriate to combat as a gender setting role and thus to move away from that may indeed take away what makes them men in some way.
Anyway, yeah...touchy subject, needed a good light hearted poking (no pun intended), and I love that the camera cuts off right before you go into full-on Hitler mode.
I agree, at least with people who let themselves be accustomed to and/or shaped by it. One of my female relatives thinks homosexuality is gross unless it's two girls because "that's more normal" when it's just that she's been exposed to that kind of objectified female sexual-exploitation catered for men. Before some ignorant comes out crying that she's right.
The games industry can take the same E/T-rated games and spice them up with salacious sales pitches to sex them up while at the same time, stop pussy-footing around with female anatomy and treat it exactly the same as male anatomy. At the very least they should relax when it comes to nipples. They'll make the Topfreedom Equality activists happy, at any rate.
You should also make the set more dungeon-like, what, with it being called the Jimqusition and all. No leather bondage gear costumes, though, unless you keep that room well air conditioned, seeing as how you'd have to wear one, too.
Yeah, its mostly full of negativity. Its kinda like Michael Patcher where no one likes him other then Gamestrailers.com users because thats where his show is
Sorry, but I can't agree with the gist of what you're saying up there, I think your relative's discomfort is because of her own ignorance, not because of "society" or portrayals in the media or whatever other excuse she or you might make.
The fact is, people are not one-way machines that media developers pump ideas and attitudes into-- at least, not those of us even halfway mentally mature. Most of us can THINK logically about what we see and experience, hence seeing something in a game won't automatically change us or make us want to emulate it. Instead, the things we see provoke a response from us, provoke thought, and we can choose what to accept, what to reject, and what to simply take as a bit of harmless entertainment.
tldr-- don't try to pawn your attitudes off on others
