How very true. Think people just let a gut reaction become their truth and after that's happened, it's damn hard to change that perspective. It's a shame too. Be skeptical or even cautiously optimistic but writing off a game after a 30 second CG clip seems ridiculous.

I agree on everything but Devil May Cry. While I would never suggest boycotting the game, and will still beat it regardless, I think it's within my reasonable right to say "Capcom didn't *need* to shill out the series like that to the Twilight crowd". Dante was perfectly fine how he was.

Also, I'm really looking forward to the new SSX, even if I didn't particularly enjoy the last two. IMO Tricky and 3 were the pinnacle, but I'd love to try this new one out anyway, especially once we get gameplay footage.

I don't disagree with a need to wait until we see something more concrete before the boycott talk starts, but the fact that someone with decision making authority at EA thought that trailer was the best foot forward they could offer up for a new SSX game is troubling to say the least.

Also I don't really agree with play it before you judge it, because then you're out 60 dollars. I respect your opinion Jim, but EA's track record on reboots speaks for itself. NFL Tour came out and they said "lets take everything that made NFL Street fun out of it and let player bounce off walls and ship it to consumers. It was horrible. Medal of Honor they said "lets try to cash in on the success of Call of Duty 4 by making a half-assed game with a Tier 1 operative with a beard and glasses. It was bad. The only franchise from EA Big that came to the next gen that was good was NBA Street Homecourt and it was still short and repetitive. I'm more concerned about the controls switching to Skate-like controls. Why? SSX3 played perfect and didnt need twaeking to a good formula. With Skate-like controls, I get the feeling of more realism. The thing that really had me like WTF was that squirrel-parachute. All they had to do was show us Mac breakdancing on a snowboard and I would have been happy. That trailer looked more like Cliffhanger from Modern Warfare 2 than SSX. This game will either be amazing as hell or epically shitty. I dont really see a in-between lol

NBA Street Homecourt was just as short and repetitive as the rest of the NBA Street series. Medal of Honor suffered from having two different teams design the game in completely different ways.

I like the hidden middle finger in the "we haven't seen it" part near the end, even if it was accidental.
Anyway, i think people should say "we don't really want this" or "we don't like the direction" when the game is revealed. I mean, it may be a first signal to the developer who might've misjudged in the game design or direction. If the dev wanted to experiment, and was intentionally doing everything he did, then this kind of reaction won't mean anything anyway.
But what i can agree with completely is in giving the game a chance. You don't know if the game is good or bad after seeing the video, especially if it's a CGI video. Sure, you might not like the style or have doubts about it because of the past experience with the dev or publisher. And maybe, the game won't be the one you wanted. But it may still be a fucking good game. Just different.
For example, i hate the style of new Dmc. Character looks stupid, "grim" atmosphere looks stupid. But maybe the game will be awesome - i don't know that yet. So i wait and write down all the cool ways of bashing the game IF it will be bad, to throw them away if it's actually good.

Got to respect a guy who has a seething hatred of the community he represents. It's the same when you work in databases like I do. Rock on Jim.

i think its the fact that the cgi they are showing us is showing how they have forgotten what the series was about and change it up. of course people will be upset, its not the games they remember, its a complete 180 from the series.

but until it comes out and i finally get to play it, then im not gonna be happy with the way its going. because it seems to be nothing like the originals.

Also, I tend to feel that CGI trailers, while not showing any gameplay or showcasing any sign of quality, is a glimpse at the artistic direction and feel the game will try to present. That glimpse is what many people, including myself, are angry and confused about. I'm not sure if angry is the right word for what we are feeling. Fear and disappointment is a better way to state it, and that is being expressed in anger.

... but sometimes people are just telling the devs that they aren't going to buy it... or play it. If something turns gamers off of a sequel enough that they rant about it, then the devs deserve to know, rather than wait till release day to see a total lack of sales and disinterest in the game.

Very nice Jimquisition. I mean, the thing with DMC is pretty upsetting but getting angry over something that you haven't even played yet is just stupid. Personally I always like to discuss things but I can't remember any game preview were I got upset. Not even with Catherine which is something completely different than I imagined. Persona like combat in the action sequences. Instead we get some sort of Q-Bert. Whatever it is, I judge it when I see it.

Remember when the first images of a cel-shaded Zelda game were released? Man, those were fun days to be on the internet.

I'm apparently one of the few people that enjoyed the gameplay of SSX. Everyone else is concerned with bright colors despite the fact that outside of the bottom 3 events of Peak 1, the game isn't all that colorful.
