I can tell he isn't actually, but yeah, he does seem like one a little. I think the whole situation is just awkward, though. I don't know why, but the question he asks at 1:58 almost made me laugh. Just the way he worded it along with the situation.
While I'm with you on that, you'd actually be surprised by the rise in the number of standing workstations that people are ordering for their cubicles and such. The whole fear of deep vain thrombosis and other issues that come about from not standing/moving much seems to be really weighing on a lot of people lately.
Also, not saying people shouldn't be informed about this stuff, but I can totally see outlets like Fox News taking this and running away with it.
I have sympathy for her, but these guys have got it all wrong (like every other news group).
Fucking sensationalism (is that even a word?) I tells ya.
It's all rather common sense and nothing to do with gaming. It's more to do with being sedentary for long periods of time which isn't good for people. It happens on long trips or in certain jobs too.
(oh, and sitting with crossed legs is a super bad habit! You'll end up with varicose veins in your old age, or worst. Break that habit now!)
If it wasn't for her addiction to higher education and her need to finish her senior thesis, she never would have made that fateful decision that led to her losing parts of her feet. The pre-existing condition? Naaaah, that probably had nothing to do with it. It was her addiction. To education. Who cares if it makes sense, it fits in with her thesis.
And WTF is with the laughing? I'm calling shenanigans.
That's how this video makes me feel. I just want to uppercut him, her, the camera and the video on the internet itself. Time to go troll YouTube I guess.
I still have both of my feet.
Therefore, binge drinking is good for your health.
Yes she did say that she "lost her feet to videogames" in the opening, and yes it wasn't the game's faults directly, it's just a title. It's not worth insulting her over, for all we know the interviewer may have told her to say that. Then she says that some people get so wrapped in these games that they let their health deteriorate, which is true. Although only a few people let it get this bad it does happen. The theme wasn't videogames are bad, it was that addiction can lead to health risks. She never called for a banning of games like many claimed she did.
Yes she may have used a some words that would imply videogames to be at fault for her condition, but she didn't really sensationalize it. She just went through extreme trauma, it's not common for people to lose their feet to long sessions of videogames. She mentioned how she's thought about killing herself, then does an awkward laugh. I've dealt with situations like this, she's not okay.
She's still not mentally stable, she still needs medical help, and support from her loved ones. Telling her story is a step towards recovery, and the majority of people are making her feel worse. If you don't have any sympathy for her that's fine you don't have to fake it, but there's the old saying if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it.
No matter how you break it down this is what happened. A currently mentally unstable girl that went through a traumatic accident is taking a few steps towards the road to recovery. It's NATURAL that she blames something, it's part of the process. She says a few words that lightly imply that video-games can be damaging (which they can be in extreme circumstances, just like any other addiction), and now people have began attacking her with such comments as this.

Don't read Youtube comments. (Or at least that's why I avoid doing so and save me a brain aneurism.)
@k1ttr1dge
May I suggest seppuku instead? (I kid of course.)
In my WoW addiction, I had to find different ways of sitting on the chair to not get bedsores in my crotch and ass. I didn't actually get any, but sometimes when I stood I would smell bedsores, and I don't wish to say how I know what they smell like. So I would rotate sitting positions as I played.
Now that my PC is plugged into the living room TV, I rest my feet on a stool, which might take a little pressure off the butt cheeks, and then shift back and forth in my seat over time so as not to keep the pressure on any place for too long. Whatever it was, it kept my butt in good health through Skyrim.
I fall asleep on my arm a lot, and wake up with it dead for the first 5 minutes or so. If I had her condition I would probably have lost an arm. Should I blame the mattress? It's the same argument a few have already mentioned about watch movies or reading a book. People need to understand the definition of circumstantial or anecdotal before jumping to conclusions.
And it goes without saying that we as gamers need to get off our asses more and do some outdoor or social activities more often.
@Scissors
Did you expect anything else from anonymous internet users, let alone YouTube?
So...she could have lost them from sitting around watching television and not necessarily while gaming? Anyone wanna take bets on when someone will not read this entire article and pin the blame on just games?
Fraser, this news article (and indeed her injury) appears to be being used as a misguided attack on video games and as such I don't think it belongs here unless Jim is going to post it and explain why people are shit with lots of naughty words.
Falling asleep in a stupid position after being an idiot with an undiagnosed blood disorder is why she lost her feet, blaming it on video games whilst blowing the addiction warning horn just denies me any sympathy I could possibly have for her.
