The highest grossing XBLA game of 2010 is... photo

So far, it's been a pretty good year for Xbox LIVE Arcade. So what are the kids buying these days, and more importantly, what's been making the most money? According to independent firm Forecasthing & Analyzing Digital Entertainment, it's…

Toy Soldiers. Yup, the game that kicked off Microsoft's Block Party earlier this year has pulled in an estimated $4.6 million in sales, at 1200 MS Points a piece. It's followed by Trials HD ($4.4 million), Castle Crashers ($2.9 million), Battlefield 1943 ($2.5 million), and Perfect Dark ($2.4 million), all of which made FADE's top five. It's interesting to note that many of the game's in FADE's top 10 didn't even come out this year -- Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, for instance, continues to rake in the cash.

FADE's top 10 can be found after the jump. If your favorite game isn't on the list, perhaps you should create multiple Xbox LIVE accounts and start spending some cash.

What was XBLA's biggest seller this year?
[CVG]

  1. Toy Soldiers (Signal Studios) - $4.6 million (1200 Microsoft Points)
  2. Trials HD (RedLynx) - $4.4 million (800 - 1200 Microsoft Points)
  3. Castle Crashers (The Behemoth) - $2.9 million (800 - 1200 Microsoft Points)
  4. Battlefield 1943 (EA DICE) - $2.5 million (800 - 1200 Microsoft Points)
  5. Perfect Dark (4J Studios) - $2.4 million (800 Microsoft Points)
  6. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Capcom) - $1.8 million (800 - 1200 Microsoft Points)
  7. Family Game Night (EA Bright Light) - $1.7 million (400 - 800 Microsoft Points)
  8. Shadow Complex (Chair Entertainment) - $1.2 million (800 - 1200 Microsoft Points)
  9. Magic: The Gathering (Stainless Games) - $900,000 (800 Microsoft Points)
  10. Call of Duty Classic (Infinity Ward) - $800,000 (1200 Microsoft Points)

That is very surprising. I would say that the reason you see some '09 games on the list is the deal of the week promotion, I know that I've picked up a lot of stuff that way that is old, in internet years.

Toy Soldiers is amazing from what I played but didnt expect that kind of figure.

I only have 4 of those though. Was Trials only released this year?

Trials was part of the Summer of Arcade, LAST year. That game has some legs... I'm glad Shadow Complex has sold well. It would be nice to see it higher though. I think it's the best DLC game to date.

Wow, that's a surprise. Looks like I might have to look into Toy Soldiers if everyone seems to like it so much.

I picked up Castle Crashers for cheap ok the weekly deals thing and I haven't regretted it, however it's way more fun with more people.

Personally though I didn't think much of both Shadow Complex and Trials HD. Trials being the better of the two just seem like it's premise while fun would just wear thin quickly for me. So far I've enjoyed P.B. Winterbottom more. Meh, different tastes.

I predict we'll see LIMBO top the charts for highest grossing at some point.

Huh. I only have two of the games on this whole list. Surprising (but nice!) to still see Castle Crashers up so high.

I suppose the easiest way to see would be to check the LIMBO leaderboards and how many are on there and times that number by the price.

Or would that not work?

Call of Duty Classic?? Really?

Wow, more people bought Toy Soldiers than Perfect Dark? That reminds me, I should finish both.

A surprising and interesting list. I'll echo the sentiment of seeing Castle Crashers still getting the love it so richly deserves.

But "Perfect Dark" was absolute shit for anyone who wasn't full of nostalgia.

How did that do so well?

I absolutely love that Castle Crashers is doing so well. The people at Behemoth actually interact with the fans, give out lots of free shit, and obviously know what they're doing with their games.

It must be some leftover Excitebike nostalgia or something but I friggin' LOVE Trials HD! Of course, Castle Crashers and Shadow Complex are high on my list as well.

I've had the cursor hovering over PURCHASE for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 so many times but I just can't pull the trigger. I know I just won't play it enough.
