Geoff Keighley was a guest on Major Nelson's podcast recently where he had nothing but glorious hype for Halo Reach. The first trailer for Reach is premiering during the Spike VGAs this weekend and Geoff confirms that the trailer will be all in-game stuff: "At the VGAs we’re actually going to be able to go down on the planet Reach and see this game for the first time."
Geoff goes on to add that Halo Reach will be one of 2010's biggest games:
“I think it’s going to be the biggest game of next year by far. Folks loved ODST and thought it was great, but when people see the huge leap forward Bungie’s taking with Reach… Everyone I’ve talked to that’s been on the team and seen it is incredibly excited about that game.”
I know I'm in the minority here at Destructoid (BIZARRO WORLD LOL!), but I'm looking forward to Halo Reach. I loved what Bungie did with Halo 3: ODST and Reach is sounding like it will be on a whole new level of awesome.

To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Cant wait for the VGAs! ...I never thought I would be saying that.
Also hoping for more solo missions. One thing I didn't like about Halo 3 was the fact that you almost always had a bunch of wisecracking marines around.
Pew pew Zap zap.
Kids XBL game is for kids.
Halo is for teh gheys and teh chilluns, and mostly teh ghey chilluns.
Just because you hear that trash on XBL, doesn't mean it belongs on here.
I don't even PLAY Halo, but come on. People are taking the fact that assholes play the games out on the games themselves, which from what I've heard have always been very good, polished shooters.
If douchebags started playing Team Fortress 2 or Left 4 Dead in mass numbers, would it make the games any worse? (Other than the obvious "chat is suddenly annoying" aspect, which I'll concede readily)
Of course, if you were just trying to be teh funniez, forget what I said. It's hard to tell the legitimate Halo/CoD hate anymore from the ironic "I'm pretending to hate because it's cool to hate, but I don't really hate" hate sometimes.
CoD I don't mind, MW2 was super fun for about 2 weeks, but got real boring real fast, plus i got spoiled bigtime by the MAG beta.
I don't hate on mainstream games because it's cool to do so, I hate on Halo because it's shite and massively overrated, I'm not one for shiney, homo-erotic alien shooters. it's not even like it's fanboy based as I lump Halo and Resistance into the pew pew zap zap shiney alien shooters pile. Resistance 2 sucked balls, in the same way that all the Halo games sucked, albeit a lot less shiney.
And the community sucks massive shiney metal cock.
Glass houses, and all that.
I'll admit to liking playing through a campaign in Halo once, in co-op, while wasted with friends, but I just plain don't like Halo. Ok fine, the first two titles brought some advancement to the FPS genre, but my general boredom when playing shooters mixed with an unsatisfying storyline just makes Halo a dull title for me. Also, multiplayer, yay, community? Mute the mic, MUTE THE MIC.
...there I go getting off-topic again, ok, short post; I hope Reach brings more to the table the ODST did, especially after all the promises behind ODST. If not, then I really don't know what's going to keep Halo fans into the franchise.
Also, SexualChocolate, I might not have the most intelligent arguments either, since I only have opinion, but you should really cut back on the vulgar ranting. You're only hurting yourself and making yourself look immature.
Bleh, so much for a short post, tl;dr
Seriously, the main thing I like about Halo is how much it rewards using all of the tools at your disposal (melee, equipment, grenades, and just shooting guns).
I'm all for differing opinions. I'm simply putting across mine. I certainly won't "try to fight off" anyone with a different opinion.
But my opinion is that yet more Halo, is not something that interests me.
Having played the first 3 Halo games, and having played 30+ hours on the MAG beta, i can safely say that there is no way Halo reach will be "multiplayer of 2010" no way, no how.
What ever floats your boat.
Halo 3: ODST was a sepearate disc expansion pack, and it was actually packed with the same game multiplayer as well on the second disc. If that doesn't scream "ITS NOT A NEW GAME ITS JUST A EXPANSION PACK USING THE SAME ENGINE AND WILL NOT BE REVOLUTIONARY TO THE SERIES BECAUSE OF SAID SIMILARITIES", I do not know what to do with people anymore.
Halo Reach will be their last chance to make something new from the franchise, really up the "graphix" to 2010 level *hopefully they fix some of the problems* and really change things up. As it seems, it will be strongly focused on co-op like halo 3 tried and failed to do well, I have a feeling it will shoot for a party mechanic, with the spartans having niches that they fill.
Since Halo 3 was terrible this better do "at one time one of the best shooters" some justice.
I'm still not sure what they're trying to do with this game, I'd like to think it won't be taking place of Halo 3 as the primary game for competitive multiplayer.
I should ask somebody who has read the book whut will be happening.
Now thats a funny story.
One word : FIREFIGHT
But MAG isn't even built on new gameplay concepts, it's entire modus operandi is MORE, not NEW. Oh, and pew pew alien shooter doesn't make any sense as a criticism. Is MAG a pew pew people shooter? Is Half-Life a pew pew alien shooter?
Sorry, but the media is horrible at discerning the truth of Halo games and are typically the standard bearers of the hype machine around Halo games.
The way Halo is now, it seems like its made for kids.
When was the last time you actually played Halo? It's been a VERY long time since I've seen any homophobia and racism on XBL. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, I'm just saying some less-than-intelligent people (you) exaggerate it wildly to prove an ulterior point. Sure, it's more common than it is in the real world, and it's more common than it should be, but it's hardly ubiquitous.
And re: MAG vs. Halo (I can't believe I'm entertaining such a juvenile statement) - I think we both know that Reach will have a larger community - neither of us should deny that Halo is popular, for better or for worse. So if Halo is going to sell more, then how will MAG be the top online shooter next year? Because you say so? You're not exactly... levelheaded.
And where the HELL do you get homo-eroticism from Halo? I've heard some weak anti-Halo arguments, but that just takes the cake. There's a place for you Fanboy Fridays, I look forward to seeing you there.
Actually its funny you say that, one time I asked my little cousin about the characters they like in his school. Aside Pokemon and the... uhhh battle ball things that use cards now... things..., he also mentioned Master Chief as a favorite.
Not liking Halo is not a crime. But talking smack about Halo just because you have a PS3 is weak*.
*1989 Hip Hop term, just for Carlton.
Reach however I'm excited for because the book was awesome and because ODST was actually pretty good. Fixed a lot of imbalances in the series and hopefully having Master Chief as a fresh Spartan out of the bag will mean they'll keep some of this balances instead of making him a god damn unstoppable freak.
Also:
At the VGAs we’re actually going to be able to go down on the planet Reach
I have no idea why I felt dirty reading that. It was such a generaliaztion and I had to read into it.
Also, JOURNALISM: Sexualchocolate trolls an Xbox 360 exclusive, and claims it sucks because of the people that play it.
<3 Bungie
I am tired of halo, but if this is something in the halo universe that isn't an FPS I think that would be fantastic. And I don't mean not an FPS like "OMG Halo Recon/ODST will be like a detective story totally different!" Yeah...it wasn't. Though it was probably the best story in the series.
Point being, branch out Bungee. You make great, extremely polished games. Let's see what you can do in another genre.
Homophobia and racism are alive and well on XBL and Halo 3 - I play 2-4 nights a week and there's always something. But that's to be expected, and it doesn't ruin the game. When they're annoying, the mute feature is easy to use. Or you can be like me and antagonize them until they're seething with rage, and therefore much, much easier to beat. The ignorant kids fall the hardest.
The whole "Xbox Live has 12-year-old hur hur" joke is kinda getting old. As stated before, yeah, there's more on there then in real life, but it really isn't nearly as bad as you say.
Just don't ever join a Left 4 Dead 1 game on Easy. Urk.
