Looks like Activision wasn't going to sit around and let Rock Band take in all the glory of selling a ton of music. Activision just sent over a Press Release announcing that the entire Guitar Hero franchise has made over one billion dollars in North America within 26 months. They also wanted to remind everyone that Guitar Hero III was one of the best selling titles of 2007. Further more, five million songs have been downloaded within ten weeks of the games release too.

Mighty impressive numbers for sure. So Dtoiders, which one do you prefer? Rock Band, or Guitar Hero? Hit the jump for the Press Release and to commence your flame wars.

[Editor's note: This fire horns image will be pretty much used for all my rock music related posts. You know it's awesome.

Syn, there is a point in the game's story in where your band is accused of selling out and so bothered by it that they play the prison. This contradicted by the fact that the game has ads all over the place.
In GH3, certain songs seem to have notes in places where there is no guitar being played at all.

I see, thank you for clarifying. It shows how much attention I paid to the story hahaha.

imbeta, I have mixed feelings towards the Stratocaster. On one hand, the "solo" fret buttons are an awesome addition, and with a little practice, I can ace a lot of the solos in Expert. On the other hand, the stum bar throws me off because it doesn't click. It makes it harder for me to time my strums when I can't really hear how fast I'm hitting the notes.

Neversoft ruined the franchise. Rock Band rules!

Rock Band is more fun and has a much better selection of music (let alone rate of release), but it's the price that scares everyone away.

I like everything better on Rock Band, except the strumming part. If I could replace that part of the Rock Band Guitar with the GHIII guitar it would be perfect.

Umm, unless I imagined it, didn't Harmonix make GH1 and GH2? So, what would the current GH developers really have to brag about besides GH3? Idiotic press release. Rock Band owns. Harmonix owns. Stoofoo Activision.

Also, anybody else notice that GH3 fucked up Sabotage on guitar and Rock Band nailed it? Sure, Rock Band doesn't have the inhumanly possible guitar tracks, but overall its so much more fun to play.

Rock Band's guitar parts seriously put me to sleep. I do like them both, but RB's world tour is a little messed up. I play it with my wife and son and we're stuck because we can't increase difficulty to get more fans... because my wife and son aren't hardcore fake instrument players. I've been playing guitar for 20 years, so for me it's all easy.

Since I play alone most of the time, I've been playing GH3 since Christmas. Haven't touched Rock Band much. It doesn't help that the damn Strat has broken 3 times, the first time was literally 2 hours out of the box, and the drums are also on the second replacement. My RB peripherals spend more time in the mail than in my hands.
