godfather2

It's been an up and down week for sequel news. First we find out that Dead Rising 2 might not come out for quite a while. And that was sad. But then Sam and Max got a second season. And that was good. Now, Gamasutra reports that The Godfather 2 is in development, and depending on your proclivities, this news is either really awesome or really irrelevant.

That said, beyond the simple fact that an EA rep used the title "The Godfather 2" in a sentence referencing some upcoming "mature" titles, nothing else is known.

Will Godfather 2 be a direct sequel to the first game and remain in the 1940's, or will it work as an adaptation of The Godfather Part II? If the latter is to be the case, will the player alternate between Michael Corleone in the 1950's and Vito Corleone in the 1920's like the film did? And, perhaps most importantly, will the developers find a way to explain the dreaded Hyman Roth and Dead Assassins Plot Holes (check the alt text if you don't know what I mean)?

These questions probably won't get answered for some time, but one thing is for sure: more Godfather games means more beetches to choke.

[Thanks, TheGoldenDonut]

:l Why? The Godfather 2 was mediocre, thus making a mediocre game? Oh I really hope they make a Godfather 3 so it can be in the running for the worst game of all time.

Mediocre? You're joking, right? I definitely consider the first Godfather superior to the second (it's definitely less plot-holey, if nothing else), but calling it "mediocre" is a hell of a stretch.

Yep, Mediocre, The Godfather was a complete powerhouse; one of the greatest films of all time. Godfather part II was Mario Puzo's story of Michael Corleone rise to power in the Corleone family, NOT Vito Corleone.

You pointed out my peeve though, the plot holes. There was a TNT adaptation of the film (I think it was TNT) that had the movies done in chronological order which was

Amazing.

Again, this is my opinion.

I really don't like Godfather Part 2 that much. At least, not the Michael Corleone storyline. The Vito storyline and the Michale one from the first movie I can sympathize with. However, Michael in Part 2 is just a straight up asshole.

Sorry for flying in the face of opinion here but I find part 2 to be better than the first.

Hyman Roth plot hole? :l What? I'd love for this discussion to carry on elsewhere instead of taking up this gentlemen's story comments

1. The Hyman Roth and Dead Assassins plot holes are described in the alt text.

2. Alt text is the caption text that pops up when you hover your mouse over a picture for a while. In Firefox, you have to right click a picture, select "properties," and read it from there. In IE, you just hover over and read as much as you can before it disappears, then move your mouse off and hover back again.

3. Trust me, nobody else is going to comment about anything more important. The discussion stays HYAH.

hey Rev.
I just wanted to point out that since Persona 3 came out, your avatar is even more gaming related.

Yeah, the Dead Assassin's plot hole doesn't really make any sense. Maybe Johnny Ola was staying at Michael's estate (since, I'm assuming, he's coming from Florida) and he took them out.

I'd believe that Hyman Roth just fell ass backwards into luck with Pentangeli living.

Oh, and Godfather 2 > Godfather 1. But both were great films.

Let's see if EA can top themselves by making a sequel that is even more insulting to its movie namesake than the original. Let me see, perhaps the protagonist will have to jack a car and chase Hymen Roth who is standing on the back of a speeding pickup throwing exploding boxes at him. That will be in keeping with the original piece of crap they had the nerve to call the Godfather.

Maybe if EA made The Godfather: part III into a game, Francis Ford Coppola could insist that one of his talentless family members help make the game. That way, the current generation of gamers could gouge their eyes out the same way Corleone fans did when we saw the movie back in the 90's.

Francis, you're my older brother and I love you, but don't ever take sides with anyone against the family again. Ever.

will the player alternate between Michael Corleone in the 1970's [WRONG-- 1950's} and Vito Corleone in the 1920's.

:-( (Spent 10 minutes trying to find ascii codes for strikethrough numbers)

rosalind:
Fix-ed.

DrXym:
Even as someone who liked the first game, I have to agree with you. It wasn't exactly very Godfather-y, especially in the final mission where Michael decides (for no reason) that YOU, and no one else, are to kill the heads of the five families and Moe Green (who just happens to be visiting NYC).

Everyone else:
Your efficiency in quoting the Godfather has literally made me laugh out loud more than a few times.
