The God of War III footage at the VGAs wasn't what Jaffe was talking about photo

Remember a few weeks back when David Jaffe told us how amazing Sony’s God of War III looked? Jaffe’s description of his private viewing in Santa Monica was simple, but robust at the same time:
HOLY HOLY HOLY F---ING HELL!!!
At the Spike TV Videogame Awards show, new footage of God of War III was shown to the masses. While impressive, the teaser wasn’t making us fall out of our chairs and write curse-laden blog posts. Recently, Jaffe cleared up the matter on his blog by saying that what he saw in Santa Monica wasn’t exactly what the viewers glimpsed during the Awards. Sure, that footage was there, but it wasn’t what blew his mind:
What I was raving about has not been shown outside of internal Sony meetings. I imagine it will be shown soon, but I have no idea. I also assume that the Spike stuff was turned in earlier than the stuff I saw (that I raved about) as the stuff I saw was for a meeting and didn’t need to be edited, reviewed by Spike, Sony, marketing, etc..

He went on to write that the stuff he was going crazy about “was probably finished 1-2 days before I got to the studios. The Spike stuff I saw had [already] been turned into Spike, so it was 100% older.” He added that the “new stuff I saw looked further along, for sure.” Jaffe ended by saying that he had nothing to gain if the game succeeded, which leads us to infer that his gushy comments are completely objective.

I actually somewhat believe him, although I can't imagine that they could have truly dramatically altered what we've seen. Why bother spending that much time and effort on a trailer if it is in no way indicative of how the final product will look?

As it is, I personally think it looks very, very good, and I imagine based on what I've seen and read the past two days that we in the end be impressed by what they give us.

Also, for what it's worth, it does look better in HD if you get it on PSN, and if you come across some of the bigger screenshots, it looks very good. The environments in particular are actually quite impressive, in terms of lighting and atmosphere.

I'm still very excited.

I certainly hope note. That looked awful. I honestly thought they just took GoW2 footage and bumped up the resolution.

Well, GoW is an M-rated game and I don't think they can actually show M-rated gameplay on tv. Not really sure how that works though.

@Deathslayer: Yes sir when you see it on the PSN in 1080p and do a little pausing, as it's over so quick, you see the incredible detail. Seriously pause it and look at the detail on the Kratos..the scar on his stomach and the lion gauntlets..just insane and his facial expressions while he's doing all his bad ass fighting are so cool. I was very underwhelmed until I saw it in HD.

Riiiiight,. Because that's how i like to play my games. Pause and look. Ummm no.

GOW3 did look like a res bumped-up version of GOW2. HOWEVER, that isn't to say that the game did look GOOD (and it did) but if I'm playing a next gen game, i shouldn't have to "pause" a damn thing for it to show me it's next gen. I like my games animated , spank you very much.

sogmasta: Nobody is saying to pause the game instead of playing it. What Drack is trying to say is that the footaghe was so short and also so fast moving that you couldn't really get the greatest look at it. This was in addition to the fact that when it originally aired on Spike it wasn't in HD, therefore it SHOULD pretty much look like GoW2 with bumped up resolution.

Now, if you look at screenshots and analyze the video closely like I have (I'm a fanboy for GoW), you'll notice the game features some incredible lighting and some nice environments.

Either way, the game will look great, perhaps not amazing, but great, and the gameplay will of course back it up. Not to mention the epic story and cinematic presentation.

Oh, and the tits. Can't forget the tits.

In HD.

Once again, Im going to be optimistic here and believe Jaffe. I do expect God Of War 3 to push the PS3 technically just like the other GOW's did on the PS2. Now this game isn't coming out for a while and that video they did was probably don't weeks or months in advance, so give Sony Santa Monica time and lets wait and see, hopefully we all will be blown away by how good it looks once it gets closer to release date.

I think the videos were just QTEs. They're "cool", but watching someone with skill play any God of War will make you go #$%#@$%*#$%*#$%*#$*%#$*%!!!!!

But personally, I just want it to play well, with plenty of blood spraying everywhere (and splashing onto Kratos this time).

They better, because that teaser trailer looked generic as hell, graphics wise.

Ya that was pretty "eehhh", but I agree with Jaffe it's logical to think it would be something older having to go through an acceptance policy.

Ah, the old PS3 mantra "Just wait guys, it'll get better, we promise"

Jus kidding. I believe Jaffe.

I hope they've got something good in store for us i wasn't overly impressed by the trailer. The trailer looked good but not particularly next gen.
