The Getaway 3 is one of those games that seem to have been in development forever, and it was believed that the London-based crime game, along with Eight Days, had been abandoned by Sony so that EyePet could be worked on. However, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed that the games aren't on the scrapheap, they've merely been put "on hold."
"I would not say they were abandoned, just put aside. Much work had been done," states SCEE's Nicolas Doucet. "The studio just wanted to focus on its strengths, EyeToy and SingStar. Given the potential of EyePet, priorities have been changed, but it is not a 'death' of other projects. Ultimately, this decision has benefited everyone."
I'll take EyePet over The Getaway any day of the week. I mean, the first Getaway was alright in an awkward way, but did it feature a cute little furry guy who could draw rocket ships? No, didn't think so. VETO!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
The graphics were pretty mind blowing at the time and it featured some brilliant set pieces, shhoting up a London gallery was a highlight, so was breaking into a police station and let's not forget you visited a brothel only to end up in a fire fight there, half naked prossies included. Not that I cared or thought OMG BOOBS LET'S WANK OVA DEM, actually I felt sorry for them when they got gunned down in the fire fight. The game was hard, but some of the missions really should be emulated by games today.
I wish I could say the same for the second one, that was a travesty of a game and has some of the worst stealth missions ever.
They proudly claimed 'fuck you to all who thought this was impossible' in the credits, no really.
I'd like a third one.
I can't believe it still exists.
The graphics and engines have gotten a lot better since we last heard of the game.
I admit, the driving was improved in the sequel, not so many 'tanks' on the road, and the graphics were improved very much in the second one. The only problem is the second never really addressed the faults of the first one. Clunky controls, annoying camera, and some nasty glitches are still present.
Gameplay wise it was okay, yet it was lacking the pure excitement, thrill, feel, and compelling events of the original. The whole crazed revenge story was a blast to play through, even with the clichéd characters.
You could forgive the faults of the first one and enjoy what was top notch about it, because it was new and the team was working with a console that was too limited for what they were trying to do. But they managed to work through the limitations and deliver a geat game, not perfect, but still great. The problem is the sequel never addressed what was bad about the original and the dev team tried to put out a good story and hope the player forgot insufficiencies of the game.
It did have potential, but the devs killed any of that by not improving any of the flaws of the original. I don't like game what do this at all, hence my view of it being a travesty.
But, yes, the combo of Mitch and Eddie were cool. :)
