Here's video of Kaz and Howard Stringer with the first guy to buy a PlayStation 3 in the U.S. Tonight I was at the Sony launch party at the Sony store in NYC. More video coming tonight, including Ludacris, Charlie Murphy, G4, and this madness of a party. Oh, and also, got some angry campers. Drink some coffee, it's gonna be a long lovely night.
Remember, it's a $900 system, they're just selling it with an invisible $300 coupon ;) iSuppli said that, I'm not on Sony payroll nor have naked photos of Kaz (anymore).
If you're having trouble viewing, it's probably your browser type. Use Firefox. I was forced to use Google video on this one cause GoogleTube was acting like a bitch earlier. More vids coming guys.
Yeah, some stores got Japanese PS3's in around Monday or Tuesday. I'm sure they're sitting on some guy's truck right now, waiting to be sold. Don't you just love NYC?
I had a snarky comment, but got distracted by a pair of boobs and a boxing glove. ... Is that Fight Night 3? What have I been missing here? I thought it was all sweaty dudes and I...
When did CEO's become celebrities? Reggie deserves it for U-Turning Nintendo's prescence. But Kaz? I only know him from RIIIII (boobs distracted me again sorry...)
Laughing my ass off at the insanely entertaining tales of mayhem, chaos, pregnant women, running gun battles, robberies, fights, arrests, corporate thuggery, lies, scams, rent-a-cop bullying, and other treachery and turmoil.
This is pretty much America 24/7/365.
It's funny that some of you only really notice the deep dysfunction of our society when it's denying you it's gadgets and gizmos.
Our president just spent the last six years transfering one trillion dollars from the Treasury into his buddy's coffers. Like a drive-through ATM. But America only wakes up for PS3 and TMX Elmo. Amazing.
One final thing, I haven't heard ANYONE ask the very obvious question about why there seem to be thousands of people nationwide who consider waiting in a lawnchair for five days in freezing weather for a $600 toy to be a viable way to earn money. There seems to be some notion that these people are "losers" or upper class spoiled kids, but in fact the spoiled kids are the ones whose parents are BUYING them PS3's on eBay, not the ones who are selling them. Whatever pittance they make on their eBay auctions is not going to make them rich.
This whole launch thing is funny, but it's also fairly pathetic when you consider that 95% of the rest of the planet lines up for more mundane things like over-priced pharmaceuticals, clean water, and that whole food thing.
I totally agree with you. People see too much of this console as some golden ticket to cash. Unfortunately I'm one of them as well, but this is what happens when you ignore the american people and buy them off with $100 refunds on their taxes and ignore decade old minimum wage laws. If people were able to live comfortably, there'd be less of this social shift of momentary power of the poor (armed with high interest credit cards) to sway favor with the wealthy, who just don't give a shit about standing in line for 48 hours in the freezing cold.
I do find it amusing that people are blatantly turning down decent profits (frankly, anything a penny over what you paid for the PS3 IS profit, people are being so freakin' greedy in their decision to sell. Craigslist is already full of "highest bidder gets it" and $4000 claims (who'll "settle" for $3400). Are these people serious? Do a bit of haggling, get somewhere between $1400-1200 and be fuckin' happy that no one jumps your ass when you show up to do the exchange.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

And instantly we forget this guy.

Yeah, I just bummed you out.
Deal with it.
And I approve this message.

I smell a whole grey market scam coming.
