The first gameplay footage of Mega Man 9

     wii

Here it is folks, the first gameplay footage of Mega Man 9 for WiiWare. There's really not much to it and the entire video is covered with lots and lots of text. This video, in my professional blogger opinion, has to be the biggest tease ever made for a game.

The graphics are exactly what you would expect since they're going for that 8-bit retro feel and the music sounds absolutely amazing. Wow, I can't believe I'm about to say this, but this is the first time in years that I'm actually excited to play a new Mega Man game. How about you?

You know, the more I hear and see of this new Mega Man game, the more I realize that I fucking hate the little git. It just drums up bad memories of when I used to rent Mega Man games as a wee lad. I'd excitedly rent the games, only to be met with intense frustration and disappointment.

In fact, I'm going to go ahead and blame Mega Man for everything that's currently wrong with my life.

From the looks of it, they also keep the 8 bit era frustrating gameplay. It would be awesome if they have the retro art direction, but update the gameplay too (with more animation frames etc)

Despite how hard it'll probably be I'm down for this game. They're fun and finally beating a boss feels really good lol.

and then there's the eventual race between the advantage, NESkimos, and mini-bosses, to be the first to brutally cover songs from this game.

I don't get it.

No thanks Megaman 9.

Oh wait, I get it now!
It's 8-bit because the game will clock in at about 200kb, thus won't take a hit on Wii's 512mb internal flash memory.
Brilliant!

Now can I please have Megaman 10 on XBLA / PSN?

Did they ever confirm its release on playstation network or xbox live arcade?

I've already voiced my opinion, so it doesn't need to be restated.

I dunno, maybe it's because my first Mega Man game was X. I played and enjoyed the NES incarnations, but the SNES was where it was at for my nostalgia factor.

Without it, all I see is a romhack.

I wish I still had my old old GameBoy since I just found my old old Mega Man game from that. I really don't need a new one since I'm kind of content with that content in the older one. Don't see much growth in gameplay that makes this a good buy, IMHO.

Give the guy a break and quit acting like a child throwing a temper tantrum.

Also,

I don't think I'm retro enough to play this game. I'm terrible at the original Mega Man games.

It is 2008, right? I didn't wake up in the 80s this morning did I?

I understand why some old school gamers may enjoy it, but as someone who didn't start gaming in full until the Sega Genesis/SNES days, this just looks too... old.

Sorry, Capcom, but I would have preferred for you to actually succeed at updating the Mega Man game series for the current generation of consoles (if that meant simply HD graphics with 2D gameplay, whatever) which they haven't quite managed yet. Doing this just gives me the feeling they threw one dude in a room and said, "Here's $50. Do what you can. We need a new Mega Man game."

I'm excited that Capcom is actually doing what the fans enjoy. An old school revision on an already super-famous name. Americans might actually cop out on this one a tiny bit, but I see the japanese market scooping this little gem up like no tomorrow. I personally am going to be awaiting this game until the final minutes. I think it really comes down to the nostalgia feeling, and whether you were really introduced to the blue bomber when he first made his big appearances in the first three games.

Wow, no love today for the Mega Man!?

Still very excited for this title!! I honestly would have expected the rotation animation to have a few more frames

Also, I think EDS's frustration is stemming from Michi's relentless . . . vocality . . . in the c-blogs and main page comments regarding his . . . often nonsensical . . . dislike of this game and its direction. To each his own, but I get where you're coming from Slayer.

"Sorry, Capcom, but I would have preferred for you to actually succeed at updating the Mega Man game series for the current generation of consoles"

I think you make a statement that identifies the can't-win-em-all situation that Capcom is in. If they tried updating the character, they'd lose the people that wince at the prospect of a new BN or even a ZX game. If they keep the old graphics, some people will not like the retroness of it.

If they do spend a bunch of cash and a dev team making a new 3D/HD Mega Man, if people are so jaded with the idea of "taking Mega Man" in a new direction, that's a ton of cash that Capcom loses. If they spend a little cash on the title and give people an old style game at low overhead to them, while feeling out the market for a new game, they are considered as if they're just trying to cash-in, make a quick buck, or even dupe the old Mega Man fans.

By all means, have your dissappointed opinions/passionate feelings. But I think the move to go lo-fi with this one is both a great homage to the older games (which some of us praise ad nausem :) ), a low budget way (via Digital Distribution and the smaller dev team needed) to test the market, and a really great way to put out a new, basic Mega Man game for fans of the series.

Plus, there are allegedly a few more features beyond the main game, so there's plenty yet that one could get excited about that we don't know of for sure.

Yeah. After seeing this in motion, I'm officially out. There's already 6 games just like this. I don't need another one.

Also EDS:
It's actually only coming to WiiWare. The announcement of the other versions was a goof from Ars technica I think.

The entire point of this title was to create a new 8-bit game for retro geeks. If you dumped the rom onto a cart, it would function perfectly on regular NES hardware. If you're not a retro Mega Man fan, this isn't intended for you.

Big Mega Man fan, but since I don´t own a Wii I will have to pass.

I do like the retro thing idea, it`s a nice touch from CAPCOM.
But seriously, i would have prefered a title with the Mega MAn 8 sprites. Wasn´t a great game, but it looked pretty at least.

" I wont be paying for an 8bit rom hack." Its an 8-bit game, in the style of old Mega Man games, made by the developers.

Was Mega Man 2 a rom hack of Mega Man 1?

gawd you whiny . . .

And have all these people forgotten about Bionic Commando Rearmed? There's your HD retro update for XBLA and PSN. Should be out this month. This Wii owner is insanely jealous. Now go be happy.

And this "romhack" meme needs to die quickly. You're just showing how little respect you have for game design and art direction. There's more to making a game than cramming polygons and lighting effects onto the screen. Surely you do not need to be told this.

8-bit is the way to go unless your a graphics whore. Mega Man is the shit. This is my most anticipated title of the year. Personally I think this project is made to help fund a bigger project for megaman. Hopefully its legends 3 or some other badass title that doesnt relate to BN in anyway.

Seems like all these "haters" believe that graphics are the only reason for a sequel. The only people really complaining about the face that a "New" game are the ones complaining about the fact its going to be 8-bit. I'm pretty sure the game won't be more than $15, so why complain about the style? Nobody is forcing the new school fans to try this one out. In fact I would wonder why anybody who didn't like 8-bit graphics in the first place would even bother commenting?
We really haven't even anything other than 15 seconds of actual gameplay. To anybody willing to decide their decision purely on the graphics, you really shouldn't be calling yourselves gamers in the first place. I for one am looking forward to a company actually catering to the "Old School" gamers for a change, not just a pretty piece of software.
