The final word on Modern Warfare 2's beta (or lack thereof) photo

So you know how everyone keeps assuming that Modern Warfare 2 is going to get a public beta? Well, it's definitely, probably, maybe not ever going to happen, according to Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling. "We'll do an internal beta, if we feel a public one is needed, we'll explore that route as well."

"We would never say something as definitive as 'No Beta Ever!'," says Mr. Bowling. For the time being, unless you work at Activision or IW itself, no dice -- you'll have to wait until November 10 like the rest of us lowly scum to play some Call of Duty. Unless of course you happen to be 50 Cent, Will Arnett, Dane Cook, or any other celebrity that wants to stop by.

If there's one game that people truly need to be sold on, it sure isn't Modern Warfare 2. I can see why Infinity Ward would rather save its time and energy for something other than cranking out a public beta.

I kind of sucks that these days, people equate beta with demo. No one really wants to help test the game... they just want a free preview of it.

I kinda feel the same way. You can thank Halo 3 for that one sir.

Well I will say that if there is anyone I trust with my gaming dollars right now it's IW. The way that COD4 played I just want to get my hands on this game. So maybe just a demo would be great. The Multiplayer that was in COD4 was pretty good and if they do nothing but clone that system again then we will all stilll get our money worth.

I'm not buying it anyway. No game is worth that amount of money, period.

er.. while I appreciate the sentiment raptorface, if you won't buy a sixty dollar game, how do you buy any game?

Do you just wait until they go on sale?

@Lolthien:

Maybe he thinks you have to spend the money for the collectors edition? Or perhaps he lives in Europe? Didn't they jack the European price up to like 80 (Quid, Euro, or whatever) over there?

Yeah, the RRP in europe is high, but most game retailers ( at least in the UK ) are selling it for normal price..

I guess the thinking is:
"Hay, we are making another game off pretty much all the same components. Why Public beta?"

Just bug test the thing before shipment, good lords. I know I'm the minority on this, but when/if I do get this game, I want the SP to work.

I was pretty irritated with a bug on Eviction (in WaW) that I put the game on the shelf for a few months and just replayed it this week.

Broken single player = Quite mad and feeling ripped off. Being forced to replay an entire level, because of a bug @ the end of the level is pretty condemning, to me anyways.

They don't need to do a beta for this. IW makes everything so tight!

I've kinda gotta agree with Holyetheline on this one. The only bad COD games were put out by Treyarch.

This news kind of gives me the feeling that they've changed very little with the multiplayer. Atleast not enough to beta test it. Not good IMO. I've put 13 days into COD4 multiplayer, I know others who have put in close to a month. If it's just a port like what treyarch did with waw and doesn't offer anything substantially different, it won't have much staying power. Atleast for me.

But hey, if anyone knows what they are doing it's IW.

@JonM1211: I'm not disagreeing with you, but COD4 was beta-tested internally if I remember correctly. It's worked for new ideas with them before

Well I'm preoccupied with a beta from MF2's competitor so I don't really care. Plus I realized that I still really enjoy Resistance 2's multiplayer.

I had no idea of the beta until a couple weeks back when I was shopping @ Gamestop. One of the workers I'm somewhat familiar with came up and asked me if my e-mail address on file with my edge card was up to date because at the end of this month they were sending beta codes to all of the cardholders. Hmm, I wonder who told him that?

I personally think the game is going to be one of the best games ever... I Loved Call of duty 4, You guys gotta think that its a sequal to CoD4. And its made by IW so it has to be a really good game. Having a beta would be a really good idea for IW but.. Most likley theres not gonna be one so CHILL...
